Post Heller Files Suit Against DC New Gun Laws 7-28-08

WUSA9.com | Washington, DC | Heller Files Lawsuit Against New D.C. Gun Regulations
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The plaintiff in the Supreme Court case that overturned Washington's 32-year-old handgun ban has filed a new federal lawsuit against the city.

In a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court, Dick Heller and two other plaintiffs allege that the city's new gun regulations still violate rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

The lawsuit cites the District of Columbia's unusual ban on firearms that carry more than 12 rounds of ammunition, which includes most semiautomatic handguns.

The suit also claims that the city's regulations make it all but impossible for residents to keep a gun ready for immediate self defense in the home.

The Supreme Court struck down Washington's handgun ban June 26. The D.C. Council passed emergency legislation July 15 in an effort to comply with the court's ruling.
Lets hope we get a quicker decision than last time

Do all the cops carry (machine guns) bottom feeders? They need to be tared and feathered.

At some point people get tired of being manipulated and thwarted by power-hungry petty tyrants. When do you think that point will be reached in DC?

I'm just wondering what's going to happen if a D.C. resident uses a lawfully owned weapon to shoot and kill an intruder if the police are going to ask them if the weapon was disassembled prior to being used. If they answer no, will they be prosecuted? My instincts tell me yes. Provisions like this, even in the wake of Heller, still make D.C.'s gun laws the worst in America. Anyone living in that godforsaken place would be better off moving south of the Potomac River into Virginia. I know that that's what I would do.

I don't know what the cost of living and type of life is in VA, but I'm asking myself the same question
Why they don't just move to VA.

While it's certainly better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it, never lose sight of the fact that the best gunfight you'll ever win is the one you avoid.

I guess I should turn myself in.... or not... :)

On a serious note, I'm glad the NRA is backing him - he's going to need all the support he can get!

Perhaps a gun that holds 14 rounds is inherently more evil than one that holds 10 rounds.

Clearly....

People who know nothing about the operation of guns should not be permitted to draft laws regulating them. They ought to have some professional 1911 shooters demonstrate how fast one can drop a mag and replace it with a new one. 8, 16, 24, 32 rounds...maybe then they'll realize how stupid the law is.
