Nevada CCW Holders Hosed Again

Nevada Will No Longer Recognize Utah and Florida Right-to-Carry Permits Thursday, June 25, 2009 Effective, July 1, Nevada will no longer recognize Right-to-Carry permits from Utah or Florida. They have, however, added Ohio and West Virginia as recognized states.

Each May, the Nevada Department of Public Safety conducts an audit of states and their Right-to-Carry laws for the purpose of determining which states it will recognize.

The Nevada DPS dropped Utah because it does not have a live fire requirement, which is a part of Nevada's training requirements. When the Nevada DPS first began its state by state audit of Right-to-Carry laws in 2007, DPS admitted to NRA representatives that they overlooked the live fire training requirement. After further review, they determined that Utah wasn't similar enough to keep it on the list of recognized states.

Florida will no longer be recognized because its permits are now valid for seven years instead of five.

The Nevada DPS and the Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs will be hosting their annual Right-to-Carry forum in Carson City in August with a teleconference feed to Las Vegas. We encourage all members to attend this informational meeting. Details will be forthcoming.

First with that BATFE regulation last year that eliminates Nevada CCW holders from not having to pay for or go through NICS checks on firearm purchases...

Now this b.s....

Time to write our State Legislators and Governor again!

The fix for both is in the hands of our State Legislature...

Contacting the legislature and governor is a good tactic for NV residents. However, there is an approach that us non-residents can take that might be very affective if enough of us do it.

I will be contacting the casino's with which I hold "players cards". I will be informing them that they can cancel my accounts because my UT CCP is no longer recognized in NV and I no longer feel safe travelling to their fair state. In some cases, I'm down quite a bit and they'll miss my revenue. In some cases, I'm up quite a bit and they'll never get it back. Either way, they're gonna miss me.

That will not work because the casinos don't really want CCW to begin with.

I don't expect anything to be done until the 2011 legislative session. With Bernie Anderson gone, we can see more pro-gun legislation pass unless the successor to the Assembly Judiciary Committee is someone who is depriving another village of their idiot.

Well this is a fine "how do you do"! Got my Utah permit as few months ago specifically so I could legally carry concealed while in Laughlin during my several visits each year. The only other state I visit that does not recognize AZ is Washington so it is not a total loss I guess.

Unfortunately we can't get it fixed until 2011. The fix won't take effect until fall 2011 or Jan 1, 2012.

Florida will stop honoring NV CFPs effective July 1 as well as Florida is a "we'll honor yours if you honor ours" State. Utah is a "we honor all" State so it will have no effect on NV CFP holders in Utah. However, it will have an impact of revenue from Utah CFP holders coming to Nevada. This also has the side effect that there will be no State in the NV CFP recognition list that issues non-resident CCWs.

The live fire requirement is rediculous considering what the live fire requirement for Nv. is. When I qualified for my non-resident permit I had to stand at 10' and one handed hit a B-27 target with 6 shots, then move to 20' and two handed hit the target with 6 shots, then move to 30' and hit the tagget with 6 more shots 2 handed. No scores, just hit the target. Also there was no time limit. Now I'm not that great of a shot, but I can hit a B-27 target with my eyes closed rapid fire at those ranges. Not to mention I had to do it with every gun I might be carrying as Nv. keeps a list of all the guns you have qualified with by Make, model and caliber.

I keep saying this... It is a real bad idea to let a bunch of Police Chiefs make law and policy, take it out of their hands and put it in the hands of those that are accountable to the voter!!!!

I am a CCW holder in Ohio. Our license requires 4 hours of range time and our renewal time has been extended to 5 years. All Nevada is asking is that reciprocal states require the same training as them. A ploy actually, but one that could be easily remedied by the legislature. In fact the best way to solve the problem is to have a universal law for the United States.. However politics would prevail and the law we would get would be obannized and do more harm than good.
