Well I received a response from my email. Here it is:

If the gun rights movement is to be taken seriously, it must move away from the Joseph Goebbells brand of propaganda. Mr. Baillio has literally become your Tawana Brawley. Come get to know Shreveport for yourself and know that both you and your rights will be respected. Happy 4th.

Yep! Just remove all pro-gun stickers from your vehicle, leave your carry permit at home, and don't bring any firearms to Shreveport, and we'll get along just fine.

According to our map up here on USA Carry, Louisiana honors my Florida permit. So if I drive into Shreveport carrying, I am perfectly legal. But since even its own citizens have no rights, reciprosity is a moot point in Shreveport. Hence I will have no reason to visit Shreveport. Whic his probably just what the good sheriff wants.

P.S. - I just wrote the good mayor myself, and am now waiting for a repsonse. If forthcoming, I will post my letter and his response up here.

You'll probably get a referral to Goebbells just as ronwill and I did. Interesting the Mayor seems to know and compare what he sees as his own 'persecution' to an avid anti-semite and devout Nazi follower of Hitler.

Quite the opposite. He actually likes me! Here's what I wrote:

Quote:
Dear Mayor Glover,

I don't really care about Mr. Baillio and his run-in with your deputy. For all I know, he might just have done something to aggravate the situation. I don't believe in passing judgment before I have heard both sides of the story, so I will withhold my judgment and opinion in this case, also.

However, I travel in and through Louisiana quite frequently, and I am a member of the NRA and the GOA. I have their respective stickers on my vehicle. And I am also licensed by the state of Florida to carry a concealed weapon, which I always do. I understand that Louisiana and Florida have a reciprocity agreement. Can you reassure me that I am welcome to travel through your city in my vehicle with my concealed weapon without having to worry about being stopped and searched?

And if you cannot, can you explain to me why not?
And here's his reply (I think hew actually likes getting e-mails, because he answers them so quickly:

Quote:
Yours is a most refreshing email. Thank you for the chance to answer your question. By all means your rights will be respected here in Shreveport. The fact of the matter is, I advocated and voted for our state's concealed carry law while a member of the Louisiana Legislature. Additionally, the officer who detained Baillio is an NRA member himself. Thanks again and have a great 4th,

Cedric
He even signed his post, "Cedric." My, how nice he is! I'll have to stop off at his place and have a cup of joe with him when I pass through Shreveport. And if one of his jack-booted thugs stops me, why, I'll whip out a copy of his e-mail to me and tell them that me and the mayor are cool beans! And they'll probably give me an escort right to...the frikkin' jailhouse! That is, after they confiscate my gun and truck. But maybe not...I'm not one of hizzoner's subjects, you see.

Odd, all I asked was verification of some statements. Even told him I didn't believe all the emails and web findings. I guess my mistake was mentioning a possible change in vacation plans. Oh well.

He got his gun back at the end of a stop for suspicion of DWI. This is a non-story.

The question here is not the stop made by the officer but the statements made by the mayor afterwords. It seems the officer was professional and courteous at all times. He even followed Baillio to a restaurant so he could pick up his order before they closed. He was just following orders of a mayor who made statements after it happened like "Your rights are suspended when an officer stops you". Rights are never "suspended", at least not until you are actually convicted of a felony. As for the stop, if not using a turn signal is reason to stop for a DUI check, most drivers where I'm at should be stopped then. Remember the mayor is also a member of Mayors against illegal guns. What is an illegal gun is the key here.

Do a google search on the most corrupt states in America and guess which one comes out on top just about every time? That's right, it's Louisiana! This is just yet another in a long line of abuses of power in a state that has a legacy of corruption. Unfortunately I am ashamed to to call this state my birthplace. I have only been there three times since I've been an adult, and all of those times it was to visit family.

Hi DebS,

I'm and good friend of Robert Baillio and the blogger on ConservativeDrink who posted all the information over Cedric Glover's comments, etc.

Did Glover respond via email or an actual letter? Can you provide me a copy? I'd love to post a blog article about it, and reference this forum as the source if that is cool.

You can feel free to contact me directly at rex (at) conservativedrink (dot) com.

PS: Hello to everyone on the forums!
