My Daughter Shoots!
Well this is my all new episode on YouTube. I will be training my 10 year old daughter Izzy to not only survive the future Zombie Apocalypse, but to dominate throughout. "My Daughter Shoots" is based on Izzy, my 10 year old daughter and her exciting journey to someday compete with firearms professionally. She is very much into the sport of shooting and loves shooting her (My) gun, a Ruger SR22 handgun. I would love to hear your comments and any tips you have for my daughter and myself. Any help you could give for me to make sure I teach her a good foundation would be greatly appreciated. So please, give my channel a try and join with my other subscribers today. I promise, you won't want to miss this.

After a day and a half of editing, My Daughter Shoots! Episode 1 is finally ready. We have been wanting to start this for a long time now and finally found some .22LR ammo... Just kiddin' the ammo wasn't all that difficult to find. I don't really expect this to hit the box office shelves, but I think it will be a great way to chronologically diary her entire training.

With that, I also look forward to the loads of information I hope to receive from you and others on any teaching that I am doing wrong as well as helpful advice to make for certain that she is getting trained correctly. Remember, I am just a noob too, so I am far from knowing it all.

So watch our first episode and please tell me what you think.

A VETERAN DIED TODAY (POEM)
Anonymous

He was getting old and paunchy, and his health was failing fast.
And he sat around the Legion, telling of his past.
Of the war that he had fought in. Of the deeds he had done.
Of the exploits with his buddies. They were heros, every one.

Though, sometimes to his neighbors, his tales became a joke.
All his buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer, for old Bill has passed away.
And the world's a little poorer, for a Veteran died today.

No,he wasn't mourned by many, just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way.
And the world won't note his passing'though a Veteran died today.

When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state.
While thousands note their passing, proclaiming they were great.
The papers tell their life stories, from the time that they were young.
But the passing of a Veteran, goes unnoticed and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of this land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise, and cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow, who in time of war and strife,
Goes off to serve country. And offers up his life.

The politician's stipend, and the style in which they live.
Are sometimes disproportionate, to the service that they give.
While the ordinary Veteran, who offered up his all
Is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension small

Its so easy to forget, for it was so long ago.
That our Bobs and Jims went to battle, but we know.
It was not the politician, with his compromise and ploy,
Who won for us this freedom that our citizens enjoy.

Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies at hand.
Would you really want some copout, with his ever waffling hand.
Or would you want a veteran, who has sworn to defend
His home, his kin and his country and fight until the end?

He's just a common veteran and his ranks are growing thin.
But his presence should remind us we may need his like again.
For when countries are in conflict, we find the Veterens part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor, while he's alive to hear the praise.
Then at least lets give him homage at the ending of his days
Perhaps a simple headline in the paper that might say
"Pay honor to this hero, for a Veteren died today".

*Disclaimer: Techniques and tips described here are to be used at your own risk. YOU are responsible for your safety and the safety of those around...

*Disclaimer: Techniques and tips described here are to be used at your own risk. YOU are responsible for your safety and the safety of those around you.

Dry fire practice is nothing new. It is an easy, inexpensive and effective way to improve your shooting. During these lean times of ammo shortages and price gouging, it's time to take another look at it. It is effective for everything from brushing up on the basics to practicing advanced defensive and carry techniques. It is also a great way to teach new shooters the basics of safety and gun handling. Doing dry fire practice drills will certainly make your live fire time more productive. Afterall, if your rounds aren't going where you want them, that's no fun and you're wasting precious ammo.

There are many ways to practice dry fire, everything from putting a non-firing training barrel or "snap caps" in your real carry gun to totally electronic training firearms.

Personally, I like the "old school" method using my real firearms. This allows me to feel the actual reset and characteristics of a firearm that I actually carry and would have to use should the need arise. I know I'm going to get hate mail about "You don't need snap caps". I kind of like my firing pins and some firearms really do not handle dry fire well without a buffer. Real or electronic the rules remain the same.

Safety

First let's look at safety. Dry fire should always be done with an unloaded firearm.

1. Treat ALL Firearms as if they were loaded.
Even if you're using one of the new high tech laser firing guns, treat it and respect it like the real
thing.

2. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.
See #1

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
See #1

4. Know your target and what is beyond it.
For dry fire practice make sure you have a safe direction in which to aim while you train.
You can also create one using a ballistic backstop such as the one
here.

Preparing for dry fire practice

* Determine the type of practice you wish to engage in.
* Set up a designated training area. Set up all your practice tools in this area i.e. training barrels, snap caps electronic training systems, shot timers etc. If you're only working on the fundamentals the above items should suffice. If you're doing more advanced practice such as defensive, concealed carry or competition you will also need the proper holsters, cover garments and other items from your EDC or competition rig. Many of the items that I use personally are available here.
* Unload live ammunition in a separate room just as you would for cleaning.
* Move to your training area with the action open.
* Make a visual and tactile inspection once again to make sure your firearm is clear.
* Make sure your training area is prepared and safe.
* Install your training aids.
* Begin your dry fire practice. If you take a break or your practice is interrupted, repeat the clearing and inspection ritual.

Practice makes perfect

Only you know the areas in which you wish to improve, drill types and repetitions are up to you.Whatever and however you decide to practice, aim for consistency (pun intended). For example consistency in the types of gear that you choose, types of firearms and how you wear or carry them. This will give you a chance to see which items and/or techniques that may or may not work for you in "Real World" situations. You may want to keep a training journal or make notes to chart your progress over time.

Ending your practice session

Once your practice session ends, clear your firearm of training aids and return it to your "live room" (action open) and leave it there. Once it is secured, then you may begin breaking down your training area if it is one that cannot remain static.

After action review

After everything is put away and secured use your down time to do a personal after action review of your practice. Write down your findings and review them. You may find that you were doing things that you did not know you were doing or that maybe that holster that you love may not allow you a full firing grip upon the draw. Always, try and keep things fresh and interesting in order to make you want to practice and improve. Whatever you do stay safe and amaze yourself.

Cook County, Illinois, which is mostly the town of Chicago, has suggested a bullet tax to secure more financing in the fight against crime and to beat back a $100 million budget deficit. The tax recalls a stand-up routine by comedian Chris Rock, who proposed making bullets astronomically expensive, which would drastically decrease the amount of shootings. Stand-up comic Chris Rock said in his 1999 stand-up special “Bigger and Blacker” that he believed gun control wasn't necessary, but instead there should be bullet control. “I think all bullets should cost $5,000...People would think before they kill somebody if a bullet cost $5,000.”

Such a tax on ammo has been suggested in Cook County, Illinois, according to NBC News, as a “violence tax.” The funds are meant to help pay for some the costs incurred by gun crimes.

Costs of crime too high

The suggested bullet tax was put forth by Cook Region Board President Toni Preckwinckle. She even cited Chris Rock as an inspiration to the Chicago Tribune. The tax is part of her recent spending budget proposal for next year. The surcharge, five cents per bullet and $25 per gun sold in Cook County, would net an estimated $1 million in revenue. Law enforcement would be exempt.

You would not need additional cash for a 20-round box of shotgun shells or rifle ammo, but you would certainly need personal loans if you wanted to get a 500-round of .22 bullets, which are just for target practice.

Gun rights supports are clearly not amused, but there is a rationale. According to Reason.com, the homicide rate is up 25 percent this year in Chicago, which according to USA Today is mostly attributable to gang violence. The region is facing a $100 million deficit for next year and spends almost 75 percent of its spending budget on the criminal justice system, according to the Chicago Tribune. Almost one-third of the guns used in crimes are acquired legally in Cook Region.

Has been suggested in first

Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York tried to get a bullet tax against ammunition by 10,000 percent in 1993, meaning this is not the first time the idea has been brought up, according to Reason and the New York Times.

Police force and victims who have been hurt by the violence will be able to pay with it with the funds, according to Preckwinckle. It costs $52,000 to treat a gunshot sufferer, which 70 percent of victims cannot pay for since they do not have health insurance, according to the Chicago Tribune.

I have been carrying off and on both OC and CC for three years now (Colorado baby!). About a year ago I changed my off-n-on habit to carry ALL waking hours, no matter the extra work required to do so. I figure there is no use having a handgun if it is not on your belt, right? Since then I have been running into some snags in my plan. I know these may sound like silly questions, but what do you guys do with your carry-gun when...

- I once took my gun off my belt to drop my drawers to use the toilet. I finished my business and promptly forgot my gun when I left the stall! (I know right! :nono:). I was lucky that no one else came into the restroom after so I was able to retrieve it without anyone else knowing. So, now I leave it holstered and on my belt no matter what. But, what do you guys do with your gun when going #2 in a public restroom?

- I workout at my local gym 5 days a week. I wear shorts that will not hold the weight of my full-size M&P so it stays in a locker (locked of course). I do not like leaving it there, but I feel it is safer in a locker then in my car outside. Mainly I feel completely exposed though. What do you guys do with your gun when you workout at a gym?

- I drive two different vehicles. One is a large van, easy to carry while driving. The other is a very small sports car with wrap-around seats and seating posture that make it very difficult to have something on my belt. Even a cell-phone is uncomfortable, let alone a full-size pistol.

- What about when you get home? Do you let your guard down and un-holster once you are in your own home?

- Lastly, when I enter a friend's house that I have not yet asked his permission to carry in his house, I leave my gun locked in the car. We are talking about another person's house with wife and kids in play. Am I being too nice here? Should I announce it before entering his residence if I am carrying?

Thanks, and feel free to have some fun with the discussion, but please do not beat me up too badly for my bathroom mistake. I already have.

Take your firearm and wrap the toilet paper around the barrel and grip. Then use it to help wipe.

When I work out it goes in my locker.

When I get home it stays on me.

When you go to a friend's house, keep your gun on you. You dont need permission, otherwise you should find a new friend.

I carry a bersa 380 all the time. easy to conceal and easy to get too very fast. Hope I don't need to though.
