Newbie looking for advice

Posted 10-29-2009 at 03:53 PM by Jim in Mich
Hello, I am Jim in Mich and new to this site and have only had my concealed weapons permit a few months. I discoverd what a lot of you already know, target shooting is fun; and expensive.

I am looking at a pair of old Berretas; one is a Model 76 in very nice shape and the other is also a Berreta but a Model 72. Before I decide whether to buy I, of course, want to shoot them. So I field stripped them to be sure they were lubed and clean. Fine for the Model 76 but on the Model 72 the take down lever was stiff and once it did move the pistol partially opened and is now locked up and nothing (nothing!) moves. Won't close up and won't slide the rest of the way off the frame. Moved maybe 1/2 inch and that is where it is now stuck. Any ideas and how to get it to open up the rest of the way? I really like this weapon and it is also in very nice shape. Obviously can't take it to a gunsmith if I don't own it yet.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
