    Default guards and no gun

I worked for a security company here in Kentucky we were not allowed to carry a firearm nor any type of defense weapon not even a tool knife I worked at a few shady places where I was confronted by several people and was left only to call it in and wait for my un armed as well "supervisor" now currently on a sheriffs department I sit and think of how dangerous it could of been

I have worked unarmed security before (Loss Prevention).
It's one of the worst jobs I have ever had and very dangerous.
Armed is 'definately' the best way to go if you have to work in the security industry.

Businesses only want the illusion of security. The security personnel like all other employees are expendable.

I agree, that's why it's best to worked 'armed' as opposed to being unarmed and defenseless.

A friend of mine who runs a security business offered me side work on weekends once and his guys are armed on the job. They do gigs at clubs, bars, etc. I turned him down, I wouldn't do that type of work even with a gun.
One must be wary of the mentality creating the problem or the law creating the crime.

Yep! 100% correct, they care more about their liability and their public perception than the value of a guard's safety. Plus it's a cheaper to put an unarmed guard than an armed one. I would only only go armed. Don't forget, you are dealing with the "public" in uniform, not a safe thing.

If you want to get a sense of just how much companies value security...look at the crappy wages being paid to most security guards - armed OR unarmed. For that tiny bit of money, they'll be lucky to get a reliable "observe and report" out of me. More like "Conceal self and preserve skin."

Idon't blame you...a friend of mine when he was looking for a job applied in a security firm. In the application was a question : Would you be willing to risk your life for our firm? or something to that effect... He did not have to think that one out -- he quickly put down the application form and left.

OOpppppsssssss!! have to add -- Welcome to this forum! I mean this to the original poster.

I worked as an armed guard at nuke plant for $7.10/hour. Lol, only lasted 7 months until it got really cold and the threats started coming from the anti-nuke crowd.
