All of this comparing what one of us would do in a situation versus what someone else would do in the same situation always leads to a certain amount of chest pounding and subsequent ridicule.
What everyone seems to forget is our actions are regulated by how our individual States CCW rules are written. Nogods hasn't seen fit to list his state on his profile so we have no way of knowing what laws he has to follow. It would be interesting to see if the laws of his state limit his actions to protecting immediate family members and himself only. Or if he has made a conscious decision to stay out of a situation involving the assault of a stranger.
I've never had the need to read Texas law so I don't know how it stacks up in the given situation.
In Florida, there are no restriction against a legal gun owner from getting involved in a situation like the article told. It is a matter of someone fearing "great bodily harm" or any other specifics of a justified shoot.
But first one must decide if they are willing to step up in the defense of another human being attacked. The article wasn't specific about the attacker but I'm pretty sure it did say the woman who got attacked is a grandmother. And the fact that it was a man beating on a woman? Well that just rubs some of us the wrong way.
By the way Outlaw, you should know by now that Nogods likes to poke at people, but when his argument is broken, he has to resort to calling names. Kind of childish, but hey! We all have our defense mechanisms.
Besides Robo-Cop, Batman and Dirty Harry were some awesome dudes!
Now if he compared you to Neo or Trinity, that would be a real compliment!
