Question CA Gun removed from owners underwear drawer of bedroom dresser: Properly kept or not?

Gun was used in a suicide. Would you consider your underwear drawer due diligence in keeping your firearm away from a minor?

    Per CA Penal code 12020:
"It is unlawful to store a loaded firearm where the person
knows or reasonably should know that a juvenile under 18
is likely to gain access to the firearm without the permission
of the juvenile’s parent or legal guardian and the juvenile
obtains access to the firearm and causes death or great bodily
harm to self or any other person. This prohibition shall
not apply if: the juvenile obtains the firearm as a result of
an illegal entry to any premises by any person; the firearm
is kept in a locked container or in a location which a reasonable

People are interesting. What makes you think a child will not look everywhere in a home for anything, lock it up if not in use.

A loaded weapon in an underwear drawer is not secure. I have several weapons and the ones not being carried concealed are in a steel safe with a digital lock on it.

Stupid, if it ain't locked up then a kid will get to it one way or another. Lock them up and keep the key on you.

I fit under the above category because only my wife and I live in our home. Since I have no safe, I have obtained a gun lock from the local sheriff's office, which I will use when any minor comes into our home "invited."

Intruders are never welcomed into our home and will meet with regulated resistance*. I have started carrying during the daytime, and I keep my weapon readily accessible when I am in bed at night.

*Regulated resistance means, if it becomes necessary, deadly force will be used. I am prepared to use it. If deadly force is not required, a lower form of resistance will be used. Be Prepared for the Unexpected

I hope I am never called to use deadly force in protecting my wife, myself. I will not use deadly force to protect property from being stolen. I do not object to others doing it.
