Question ~What ever happened to; "Know What You're Shooting At"??~

A San Diego County Sheriff's deputy wounded an East County homeowner Sunday night while searching her property for a prowler, homicide detectives said. The shooting happened in the back yard of a home in the 200 block of Via Tapia in the unincorporated La Presa area between Spring Valley and Lemon Grove. Deputies began searching the area after the woman called the police because she said that she saw a suspicious person on her property. At some point, one of the officers shot the homeowner as he was looking for the prowler in her own back yard. The homeowner/victim was unarmed.

Well, obviously the rules of shooting have changed. Used to be, when I was learning to shoot a BB gun, one of the first things beaten into my head was, "make sure of what you're shooting at." Grammatically, that is a horrible example, but it made good sense. I mean, don't shoot unless you know, for sure, what you will be shooting. Now that seems to have fallen by the wayside, along with keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, treat every gun as if it is loaded, and other minor annoyances like that. On the plus side, she might be able to retire now with the settlement from the county.

That will teach her to call 911! Apparently the property taxes of East County aren't being spent on firearms training at the police academy.

    Very sad, but true unfortunately.....
This 'new breed' of law enforcement officers seem much better suited to handing out speeding tickets & other citations than actually 'serving & protecting' the people imho.

We are dealing with professionals here. These are the people we are to trust. The people we train to know how to safely use a fire arm. These are the professionals that will protect us civilians when all the guns are taken from us. I feel better already.

My dad always said to me to make sure of your target, but it is just as important to know what is behind your target.

Hey! . . . . In New York two officers shot something like 16 or 17 rounds and hit 9 bystanders.
Depending on how you rate that . . . it could be a 50% hit ratio.
Don't recall how many hit the bad guy. Sure hope it was all the rest of the bullets flying around.

Seems like the Good Mayor Bloomberg should be asking how come the BG had a gun. I had heard that they do not allow guns in New York City. Maybe no one told the Bad Guy he can't have a gun in New York city.
