Thumbs up I am swan-song-ing out of this thread.

Some gun owners have and use silencers, more power to you if it adds to your shooting experience or lessens the noise that may bother others. I wouldn't buy or have the need to use one.
20 years of (active duty) firing everything from anti-tank shape-charged 'tankbusters', to SABOT rounds from Abrams MBT's to machine guns galore and firing most NATO or Soviet rifles/pistols I have my life simple now 11 years after having to do that for a living. I'm down to 2 good pistols, plus 1 I haven't shot yet/Walther PPK/S-1, and a great shot-gun. I think I have had more than enough fun with guns as anything close to a thrill it's just now staying in practise every 6 months or so. I keep my life legal and shoot only at places that are set up for the sport and the patrons there all wear OSHA approved ear-cups/plugs, ballistic eye-ware, or don't get 2 shoot. I have opinions on silencers that will never change and I don't try to push my ideas down others throats. So knock yourselves out, I sure did with all the weapons systems I had a chance to fire or the few I now own. If I have to shoot a BG meaning a life or death self defense situation is going down, then I gives less of a rats ass about anyone's hearing or complaints about the single shot they will hear, and a whole lot about my impending doom if I don't draw, aim and shoot faster than they do. I shoot to hit center of inner eye, (a sniper's shot), and I don't miss with the 2 pistols I have on targets up to 20 meters. 1 shot is all it takes a hand & eye that work as one, have done so for 30+ years and have maybe sent hundreds of thousands of rounds down range, a bunch of TOW's, Dragons and LAWS. I've run det-cord out and lit up daisy-chains of [M18A1] Claymores and blown a few abatis for real, clean up was a bitch! Surprising what the combat arms troops will let their medics do if they like you. Save a bunch of their M8's from death and U get to do pretty much anything you want with their kit, so I did. Enjoy your silencers as much as I enjoyed picking up a 2nd MOS as an 11M, now back to an 11B (unheard of for a young 91B30/SSG/E-6 medical NCO) or cross-trained (M2) BFV 20mm gunner on the day I finally made it thru with all the other transitioning 11Bushes in my class. Fort Carson, CO. 4th Inf. Div. (M), 1st Raider Bde., 2nd Bn, 12th Inf 'Lethal Warriors' regiment. "Steadfast and Loyal". And in all that time and shooting all that kit, I never once shot a round thru a silencer, so maybe one day who knows?
Regards,

Personally I like the ones that you used to see in the movies and t.v. You know those revolvers with a silencer on them.

Pardon me if my question sounds dumb, because I have never shot a suppressed gun. I'm wondering if suppressors can also reduce felt recoil.

Not a dumb question. I've never really thought about it but I suppose it could help the felt recoil slightly. As the gases work there way through the baffles it could act as a break. The suppressor does not weigh a lot but it is more weight out at the end of the barrel with could help with the upward recoil. I've only shot my suppressed .22 and they don't kick much to start. Maybe someone with else can chime in.

...right, that's "suppression".

I don't think nor have I ever heard that a single shot fired in self defense has been a reason for a BG to sue the shooter for hearing loss,
I don't care about the hearing of some goblin who's invaded my home and is attacking my family. I do care a great deal about my hearing and the hearing of my family members, and if my wife were pregnant I would care a great deal about the development of the fetus. I will admit that electronic hearing protectors by your bedside are a good idea, but they do not address all aspects of the problem.

Can you provide me with a better reason for a silenced shooter?
Did you even read the rationale section of the link I posted?

In addition, please justify why, if it is not used in the commission of a crime, it should be unlawful to use a suppressor. There are uses that don't involve the commission of a crime - if it is legal to do x without a suppressor, it should be legal to do x with a suppressor. Just because you can only see it being used by assassins, does not mean that's the only use.
