Gun permits doubled in Michigan in 2009
LANSING -- Applications and approvals for concealed weapons permits in Michigan doubled last year, as more than 73,000 people sought to obtain or renew licenses in the 12 months ending June 30, and 66,446 were approved, according to a recently released state police report.

The number of Michiganders licensed to carry concealed weapons has reached
220,422 -- nearly 10 years after the state liberalized its permit law and
following a record number of CCW applicants in the 12 months from July 1, 2008,
to June 30, 2009. More than 92,000 of those with permits live in Wayne,
Oakland and Macomb counties.
