thanks for all the good info about everything i knew that tn would recognize any carry permit but i was unsure if my age would cause any problems. Everything i have read says no. Also you can not carry a gun into a restaurant that serves alcohol? the stuff i had read said it was ok as long as you were not drinking and the establishement had not been posted. MAybe i was reading something old though. thank you for the reply!

Well I just took another look at TN department of safety website and they have removed the notice say the law was unconstitutional (about carring in restaraunts). I have sent them an email askng to either repost the notice or state weather the law or the judges ruling is in effect. According to the laws on the books accessed from their site you can carry as long as you don't drink. I will post any reply that I get in this thread so you and others will know. Good luck and let's hope some ruled the judges rulng unconstitutional.

Carry into a restaurant that sells liquor and you have broken the law in TN, I live here. To date (02/11/2010) there has been no further action on court ruling. Whether it listed on a site or not is not a factor. A court has ruled the law unconstitutional and that ruling stands until a higher court reverses it or the legislature passes a differently worded law (unlikely to happen as law was highly controversial to begin with).The law is no longer "on the books" as it has been ruled on by a court. I don't like it either but I am not going to lose money and my HCP over it.

I understand what your saying however I have the email sent to the DOS for the fact that if you read the laws then your allowed to there is no notice anywhere that says that law was ruled unconstitutional. I was around and remember that day in nov when the law was ruled that way however there needs to be somthing in writing to make it official you can not expect all the laws to be spread by word of mouth. If the law says you cant carry there (which I know to be true) then it needs to say that you cant carry there. However if you go to the DOS website and read the laws from there then it says you can carry in a resaraunt, now if I was brand new to the world of self protection and carry a firearm in TN I would be more apt to believe the current laws from a trusted source (ie TNDOS) then I would be to believe someone on a forum that says ohh yeah there was a ruling about 4 months ago that made that law unconstitutional. Do i carry in a restataraunt that serves alcohol in TN no. Do i understand where it should be up to the DOS to make sure the ruling is published yes, and that is what I have asked them to do.

Again my argument never was that with out them posting it i would carry there I KNOW that the law is now and has been since the judges ruling however I am looking out for the fellow carriers that would/will be visiting TN that they need a reliable source for the laws. If it is our job to know the laws then whose job is it to post them? At some point TN needs to take responsiblity (and other states) at informing the citizens of their state and the travelers through the state of what the laws are or atleast where to find the CURRENT laws. If I tell you that on July 9th 2004 a judge in Montgomery county ruled that you cant carry into any finanicial institution would you believe me or would you believe the laws that you read posted by the state of TN? And no as far as I know that ruling has never been made and I am only using that as an example.

I am not trying to be sarcastic. The sad truth is there is no responsibility by any level of government to make you aware of the law or any nuances thereof by publicly publishing either the law or the rulings. It is your responsibility to know everything about any law and all of its current rulings. Sucks, but that is the truth. It is the big reason I follow these forums and belong to the NRA and GOA, because they keep me informed of what is currently happening with handgun carry laws. The state didn't make any changes in the published law because the state still feels that it is legal, but a court doesn't. The court ruling is the one that will get you in trouble however.

This is pretty much the same as the Constitution of the US, it gave us the freedom to carry a gun but the SCOTUS took it away, several times! They aren't going to drop the Second Amendment because of the SCOTUS but the government will enforce the SCOTUS ruling. It is a quagmire because of the nature of our government. It isn't perfect but it is better than most.

Most TN HCP folks follow the Tennessee Gun Owners Forum at Tennessee Gun Owners on a daily basis. They have in depth discussions on whatever happened yesterday.

Fair enough however when we as citizens ban to gether we can get stuff accomplished. If there are laws that you feel everyone should know but are not readily published we need to hound the state to put them in a readily available location (websites work great for that) Even though they will never be all inclusive WE THE PEOPLE need to tell OUR government and OUR state what WE want to see. Sitting back and saying well they dont have to so I will do it this way doesnt work for me. I say thats BS and will get the notices posted if it means I need to email them 10 emails aday from different email addresses or have friends and family email/snai mail/ fax or call them WE should be banning together to get these notices readily available and its obvious they will listen to us since they reposted the notice (i would like to think I had somthing to do with that). Just how I feel and I understand what your saying but you must understand I am saying thats NOT right and I as a citizen wont something done about it.

I'm not familiar with this situation. Did they create a law allowing this? How was was it considered unconstitutional? Was is the the thinking of the courts ruling?

Instead of creating a law saying "you can do this..." why didn't they just repeal the "you can't do this" law? Laws aren't supposed to tell you what you can do...supposed to tell you what you can't do.

You are laboring under the misconception that we live in a democracy. We live in a republic that is controlled by very powerful business leaders. It is not our country, it is their country. I am not a conspiracy nut , I am a Conservative Independent. I have come the conclusion I have stated by watching the U.S. Government and State Government for 66 years. You can write all the letters you want, they don't read them and they don't care about them. They care about the very rich people who will fund their next run for office and slide them their take under the table. These higher echelon people pick who will run and who you and I will vote for. You better believe they belong to those who put them in that position. The only way we can change that is to form powerful political action groups ourselves, such as the NRA abd GOA and coerce the representatives with fear of losing the next election. Joining the political parties is just giving aid and comfort to the enemy. As a citizen you can want all you want, but you and I are not a political influence in this country.

No, we framed a Constitution, both Federal and State and these documents gave the government and corporations a whole lot more power than they gave to private citizens. The constitutions set up the judicial review system and it does override the legislative system.

Unfortunately, the only power that can really affect the government is primarily in the hands of the liberals and is predominately anti- gun. Yes, I mean the media. Now if we can sway the media our way we can bring some reining in on the government. I'm not being cynical, I am being realistic. Take off the rose colored glasses and look around you.
