Take the class. Even if it's not required.
I'm a veteran. I took the class while I was still enlisted, and benefitted from it. There are a lot of key differences between handling a firearm as a civilian vs handling one as a soldier.

Part of the class will be your State Laws concerning not only CC but engagement and your rights. Best to educate with the most information you can. Might have to use it some day. As for your DD214, SC/FLA took mine in lieu of a mandatory Firearms safety course.

Good info....My entire family went to class at different stages before we got our CCW -- even our son who is in the military also took two classes before he got his CCW. Because he was a gun nut, my only advice to him before he left for his first class is to tone down his attitude while there and go with the flow instead of being the know-it-all-intelligent-arrogant-in-the-pants that he think he is.Originally Posted by Dave

Firearms training requirements--safety instructor requirements--penalty for violations.
571.111. 1. An applicant for a concealed carry endorsement shall demonstrate knowledge of firearms safety training. This requirement shall be fully satisfied if the applicant for a concealed carry endorsement:
(1) Submits a photocopy of a certificate of firearms safety training course completion, as defined in subsection 2 of this section, signed by a qualified firearms safety instructor as defined in subsection 5 of this section; or
(2) Submits a photocopy of a certificate that shows the applicant completed a firearms safety course given by or under the supervision of any state, county, municipal, or federal law enforcement agency; or
(3) Is a qualified firearms safety instructor as defined in subsection 5 of this section; or
(4) Submits proof that the applicant currently holds any type of valid peace officer license issued under the requirements of chapter 590; or
(5) Submits proof that the applicant is currently allowed to carry firearms in accordance with the certification requirements of section 217.710; or
(6) Submits proof that the applicant is currently certified as any class of corrections officer by the Missouri department of corrections and has passed at least one eight-hour firearms training course, approved by the director of the Missouri department of corrections under the authority granted to him or her by section 217.105, that includes instruction on the justifiable use of force as prescribed in chapter 563.

I was just asking because i know florida has if been in the military you can take it later.
Some of the people that i have met that most needed to take a class were ex-military. Not all military personnel are familiar with weapons safety. A lot are, but not enough to go around giving our fighting men and women a pass from training. I believe that they should be given a discount (in some states they already do). Thank you for your service and I am grateful for all of you... but go take the class.
I work with a guy who is retired special forces. He got his MO CC permit with no class as they considered him a firearm expert. It did take the full 45 days for the sherrif to issue his permit from time of application. I assume this was to verify his military training status. Mine was processed in 10 days with the class.
