I tried bright yellow fingernail polish on the rear sights of my rifle, trying to improve visibility.in low light. I am going to change colors because it is too similar to the color of the front sight.

I have white on rear and orange front. If that needs tweaking the.gold leaf isnt a bad idea.

I kinda thought that might be why especially with the picture of the all the different paints shown but I sure don't need to assume anything... thanks for the reply! I've also been contemplating paint the sights on my XD and P85 and I'm glad this thread came up!

For white, I use a white paint marker.

For orange, I use a base coat from the white paint marker, followed by orange enamel modeling paint.

    Both work just fine.

Was reading about a couple that plate cowboy guns and how they plate the front sights in gold. According to the author gold collects any light better than other colors. Hmmmm?

    Default A liitle different approach....

I have 'painted' the front sight on my 6 year old edc compact .45 a couple of times. Used model paint once, nail polish once, in time it always eventually faded to a dingy grey in color.

Wifey has a collection of different sized and colored glass crystals that she uses to decorate tee-shirts... I found one of the closest to right size, that would fit into the 'indentation' on the FS (about 3mm), glued it in with some good ol' super glue, and now that front sight jumps right up when you look down that slide....It requires very little light to become very easy to see.

I am pretty much a self trained, both eyes open 'point shooter', and for me the "front sight, in a gunfight" rule is always in play.

Cleaned the 'goal post' rear sight to the original factory bright white with some rubbing alcohol, and now I have the best sight picture, that I ever had.

    Merry Christmas Y'all!,

Acrylic model paint works very well however a solvent based paint such as finger nail polish will stand up to gun cleaning solvents and last longer.
