I don't have any answers but I'm curious so please let us know the outcome!
I have applied for a pistol permit in Putnam County but wanted to see what other people thought my chances were for obtaining one.
I only ask because when I went to college I made some stupid decisions and got in to some minor trouble with the law.
2003 - I received two summons for unlawful possession of marijuana (Queens County) - when I went to court, both were dismissed.
2005 - I was arrested twice for unlawful possession of marijuana (misdemeanor - Queens County) - when I went to court I receive an ACD for 6 months. Both records have been sealed and dismissed.
2006 - I was issued a summons in NYC for disorderly conduct. I did nothing wrong but was with a group of people (8 ppl)who were being loud on our way back from a night out in the city. - When I went to court this was dismissed.
It's almost 2012 and I just applied for my pistol permit. I have since grown up and no longer smoke and have no other problems.
I guess my question would be if I still have a chance for my pistol permit or if I would have to continue to pay for the mistakes I made while in college.
Any advice would be much appreciated..
Thanks in Advance!!

Given the Difficulty to obtain an NYS Pistol Permit. I would conclude that, they will deny you. I hope this isn't the case, and you receive your Permit.
I will keep you posted, I have a long way to go in the process still.
@TrophyHunter - I am under the impression that Putnam County is one of the easier places to receive your full carry permit so I hope that helps me out.
Thanks for the info!!
Anyword? Just submitted my app. Hopefully turnaround is only 2 to 3 months?
Good luck!!! I hope you get it and enjoy it!! I just got involved with guns last june and it's been a great learning process and a lot of fun.
@OldTimer - From the time I mailed in the application, it took about 4 weeks to get through fingerprints and have the reference checks sent out. After that it was a waiting game, however, I did just last week hear back. I was reccommended for denial but get to speak with a judge due to my past - my appointment is set for early May. I am not concerned as I cant change the past but have learned greatly and hope the judge can understand and appreciate.
I am looking forward to the day I can get out there with a pistol!!
I will keep you guys posted come May... Wish me luck!!
@TTTT- Good Luck. Im sure you regret smoking when you where younger. Maybe ask the judge if you can take a drug test to show you no longer use? Just my two cents?
