Default Marine faces 15 years behind bars for unknowingly violating NY gun law

This why you must research the laws of each state while traveling with your firearms. I think this guy is getting a bad rap and I hope people in NY will come to his aid and find him NG when it goes to court. I hate NY, NJ and most of New England for their BS anti-gun laws and I think this area along with California breeds most of the fascist left anti-gun group.

That could be arranged. Just start a drought, add high winds, and flip a cigarette out the window (Gasoline soaked tied to a rag).

That being said, it is so easy to find out what areas are prohibited, and, even with states that have carry permits, or allow carry without a permit, it is easy to obtain information right on this website. Luke needs to publicise the website to as many instructors as possible, and even state legislators, to mention this site and encourage students of the mandatory training required by so many states to go to Concealed Carry, Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps, Concealed Weapons Permit Info and familiarize themselves with the carry info maps. That's two stories this week about a person not from NY getting busted for breaking the laws on the books.

Default What can we do about these laws?

Yes, we all need to research the laws before we go someplace new. But this marine and the woman who went to the 911 memorial with a gun are not criminals. Somehow we need to support these people, many people in trouble even if they know the law: the guy taking a gun to a NYC airport thinking he was protected by the federal interstate transportation law. The guy from PA connecting through Newark, and then his flight was cancelled and he was arrested. Somehow we need to pressure the police/legislators/city councils/governors. When they see the backing the firearms owners have, maybe they will stop harassing us and change the laws.

My wife and I live in Ohio. We never visit ANY state or city that will not allow us to protect ourselves and carry. We even boycott restaurants here in Columbus that post "no gun" signs. In November, we emailed a Honda dealership to let them know that we honored there "no gun" sign and bought a new car at a different Honda dealership!

If gun control works, why is it that cities that have the strongest gun laws have the highest crime!!

I do not agree with the gun laws, but they are laws, and anyone who owns a gun needs to spend a few minutes looking at the laws before carrying their gun.

This guy sounds like a good guy to me, but being a good person isn't an excuse to break the law. If I robbed somebody and then asked a cop if my actions were okay or not, I would get arrested. If I then pleaded that I didn't know it was illegal and that's why I asked, I would not expect a get out of jail free card. Not the best example but Im sure you get the point. Know the law and follow it, or accept the punishment for breaking the law that you failed to research. Gun owning and carrying has a lot of responsibilities in society these days.

What is in NYC worth seeing at the risk of being imprisoned over being an American? I have no plans to ever visit NYC, just like I will never visit Chicago or Compton...what's the drive to go there?
God gets blamed for a lot of things now days, they ask “why would He let this happen?, Why doesn’t He stop it? I really don’t know, but I wonder if He wants to ask us the same questions. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing
