SC is a state of different personalities. Areas like Charleston, Columbia and Greenville are certainly more urban-based than the smaller farm-like towns in other areas of the state. What might not be a problem in a small farm town can be a big problem in a more urban environment. Having said that I can easily vote for the "no permit" idea but do question the idea that you will not and do not need to have any training whatsoever if you decide to purchase a firearm for CC. Understanding how your firearm works and knowing how to use it properly with some degree of accuracy, and having some knowledge of the firearm laws in the state seems to me to be a prudent and responsible set of standards that should be demonstrated before someone can just strap on their iron. Personally, I looked forward to the CC course I took for my CCWP--it raised my consciousness about my responsibilities to CC and to do so safely and within the law. Just purchasing and walking out the door defies my sense of logic.

Sometimes Treo, sometimes. As I said, I would vote for such a change if that was asked of me. You use the term "large portion of the country"--as I said, a large portion of the country is not a more-crowded urban setting. There is a big difference, IMO, in living in the plains of Montana and the streets of N. Charleston.
The places you need a gun the most are the places where it's the hardest to obtain/carry(legally). Makes perfect sense
Every state should at least require fingerprints and completing a handgun safety/handling class.

only permit anyone should ever need! but i agree folks should have the know how and sense of responsibility that goes with ownership and carrying and if they caught not living up to their responsibility and due care or use the gun in a criminal manner, then the right should be revoked imo
gun control is being able to hit your target
Would you have every state require fingerprints and a class in order to excercise all of our other rights enumerated in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
