Default Non-resident Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit

On Januray 23, 2009 The Superintendent of the State Police of the Commonwealth of Virginia issued my nonresident concealed handgun permit. I had mailed my application package on Janurary 9, 2009.

I have read a lot about how long it takes to get nonresident permits approved from other states even though the law requires a specific time limit. The law in Virginia is the permit be issued or deined in 45 days or the permit is automaticly approved.

The permit is honored in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Lousiana, Mississippi, Missiouri, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah (where I live) Vermont and (of course) Virginia.

I downloaded the application from http//www.vsp.state.va.us/firearms.shtm

    I sent back:

    1- The completed application, notorised
2- Documentaion of competence with a handgun, any NRA class or hunter's saftey or military or you can take a class online
    3-Fingerprint card
    4-passport photos
5-photocopy of my DL or State ID
    6-application fee, $100.00

I GOT MY PERMIT IN LESS THAN THREE WEEKS.

The number on my permit is just over 3300. Why have less than 3400 people in our great land taken advantage of this????

You might have to consider that non-resident vs. resident permits might have a different numbering sequence.
