Kydex Holster Heating?

I had a Blade-Tech Holster made for my fullsize M&P and I know have a new toy a M&p compact 9. The compact fits in the holster fine other then one thing the compact has a thumb safety and the full size does not so the holster was not made to fit a thumb safety. The holster still fits the gun you just cant use the thumb safety ( have to leave it in the fire position because it will not stay on safe) After researching holster making and talking with the company I was thinking if i use a heat gun or a hair dryer and heat the holster to the point where it becomes soft and pliable. If i insert the firearm and push the holster around the safety it will then make a indent for the thumb safety and and I can use the thumb safety. Has anyone done this? Or does anyone know about holster making?

CrossBreed has a procedure to do that very thing for adjusting retention so yes it works. Even heating and keep an eye on it. If it begins to get a shine to the surface stop the heat your beginning to melt it. If it's Kydex that will work.

Just a word of caution, be sure that the gun is UNLOADED before attempting to fit it in the holster. Sounds like something obvious, but I've seen folks forget in the past, with potentially deadly results.

Oh yeah no doubt. I store My handguns unloaded and if it's a home defense gun I keep one loaded mag next to it in the safe. So it's never loaded until I'm ready to carry it or if I need it at home. I forgot to say this in the first post but the Nanno is made from a thinner and more light weight Kydex so I'm thinking it should be really easy. Blade-Tech says not to leave the nanno in a hot car because it's such a light weight kydex it will lose it's shape in the hot heat of the car. I will keep you posted on how it turns out.

What I do when I make my Kydex holsters is to put quick release masking tape on the firearm then mold the Kydex around it. This gives a little clearance for the firearm then make any final adjustments. Put some tape around the thumb safety then mold it. That way it won't rub on the holster.
