Injection Molded Holster

Who makes those injection molded holsters? They have a large pad with belt loop holes and are injection molded to perfectly fit the gun. I see them a lot with the Glock owners. I'd like to try one with my Taurus PT92. Thanks...

Fobus and Blackhawk make a good kydex product, with Fobus being generally less expensive.

I purchased a Blackhawk Serpa holster at Cabela's in Lacey, WA for $26.99. The holster is olive drab on a black paddle that is made to fit a 1 1/2" belt. If someone is able to determine you are armed and tries to take your weapon, if he is not aware of the active retention feature, he will only lift you by the belt. However, the holster presents the weapon quickly, with a proper grip. It is molded to fit the SA XD-45 like a glove. the gun does not even move in the holster, and just clicks into the holster, making holstering quite easy and positive.

The Serpa is on my short list. I like the active retention. can anyone confirm that the Baretta 92 and Taurus PT92 are identical? I know the PT92 is a reproduction of the Beretta 92 but is it identical to the point that an injection molded holster for a Baretta 92 will work with a Taurus PT92?

Best thing to do is check it out in the gun shop before you purchase it. All of the quality hosters I've seen on the market today come in some type of "recloseable" packaging. This is so you'll be able to "touch and feel" the holster before you buy it. Go to your local gun shop and see if they have the firearm model or an equivalent "blue gun" on the shelf. Check the fit in the holster before you purchase. At the least, you could always transport your firearm (the one you're buying the holster for) cased and unloaded into the store to check the fit. Check with the gun shop on their policy before taking any firearms into the store. Let them know what you're looking to do and get their input.

The problem with the local shops is that none of them have any inventory. You'd think that a city like Nashville would have at least one large gun store. I'll probably have to buy on-line.

Even if ordering online you could still verify fit for your make/model before placing your order.

For kydex, the Blackhawk Serpa is likely your best choice just because they're popular and generally have a holster for all kinds of makes/models.

Do you already have some ideas where you'd order online? (For Blackhawk gear I order through GT Distributors - America's Law Enforcement supply specialist GT Distributors.) When I was stationed in Texas, I used to visit their store/showroom up in Austin. Exceptional customer service. They'll help you over the phone with any questions before online ordering - no worries.

OK, I've narrowed it down to either the Serpa or the Fobus thumb break. What do you guys think about the difference between belt loop and paddle? I'm looking for comfort and as close a fit as possible. It looks from photos like the paddle version hugs the body a little closer.

The Serpa is available for the Baretta 92 but they don't list the Taurus PT92. I need to call them and ask if the Baretta model fits the PT92 also. I'm guessing it does since Fobus lists the same holster for both guns.

Good thing about the belt loop variety is that you can adjust the fit, and crank it tighter as necessary - but you have to be wearing a belt. Obviously, a more-snug fit also pulls the gun closer for better concealment.

However, the paddle can be worn without a belt, which greatly increases your wear/carry options. I'm typically a big fan of the paddle holster design for this reason, so long as the molded holster isn't sticking way out away from your body, making effective concealment more difficult.

Depending on how you dress on a daily basis, i.e. wearing a belt 90%+ of the time, maybe the belt loop design would suffice?

** I'd be surprised if the kydex holsters don't accommodate both the Beretta and the Taurus, especially considering the most significant difference in design is the location of the safety/decock - which would likely not be IN the holster of either. **
