No gun signs?

Does anyone know the laws concerning carrying in areas which have "gun free" or "no guns allowed" signs posted?

I know some States say it is legal to carry in a posted area until I'm asked to leave.

Ehhhh it depends on where you are. Aside from the obvious choices such as the DPS or elementary schools there's not a whole lot stopping you. The signs are just a deterrent really. Unless it makes reference to the law (such as, "it's unlawful to carry here, or state building etc...) you can still carry. They do however have the right to ask you to leave, but that's normal stuff. Chances are you deserve it if they saw your firearm as it's supposed to be CONCEALED!

A friend of mine used to manage a movie theater around here and had to ask someone to leave because they weren't allowed in the theater. The woman claimed to be a bounty hunter with papers but my friend's reply was to the effect of, "you still have to conceal it and you're not doing a very good job if myself and others noticed it". DUHHHHH. :)

In CT a person in control of private property can ban firearms, if you choose to ignore the sign you are breaking the law and can be prosecuted, see: CHAPTER 529* DIVISION OF STATE POLICE section e.

I noticed this week that a local casino removed the sign it had posted stating that no guns were allowed. I wonder what prompted their actions?

Stratus is probably right, it may just be a 'store policy' in many areas. But that is their right to have that policy. If you ignore it, you reinforce their perceptions, assuming you get 'caught'. Much better to take the high ground and respect their rights, just as you want them to respect yours. I have already told my wife we are not going to be supporting (shopping) in one place having such a sign in their window. They have the right to at least ask you to not bring your gun into their store. YOU have the right to shop elsewhere. Who is more likely to suffer consequences of ANY kind, as a result?

(For what it is worth, the recent Mumbai attacks reminded me we used to go to the Oberoi Hotel, the Taj Hotel and to Leopold's Cafe, when we lived there. Sometimes almost daily! I spent hours upon hours in the Oberoi when Clinton made his "POTUS" [Pres. Of The U.S.] visit to Mumbai, even catching an 0500 cat nap in one of the overstuffed lobby chairs on one 24 hour stint. Point is, any of those hotels could easily have been defended by a few undercover cc types who were professionals. Only a few shooters were needed to first take these places over. Worse, few Indian police have been in gunfights. [You figured that out pretty quickly, if you saw the tv footage.] What if India had a cc law? What if they had private armed security services? Rousting cabbies, using a riding crop on street people and tossing drunks is their norm. Guys with guns are on a different 'level' and few of the police were up there with them!)

My ? is, how many of these "no guns" stores and businesses here have figured out 'the bad guys' could care less what signs are put up? People who will honor such a sign, or avoid those businesses because of it, are not their problem. WE know that, but even if they someday see bodies being pulled out of their place, they still won't get it. Just make sure yours is not one of the bodies, by simply staying away.
