A Shasta Lake man was shot and wounded in Shatsa Lake early this morning, police said.
The Shasta County Sheriff's department received a report of a shooting on Hardenbrook Avenue in Shasta Lake around 2 a.m. Upon arriving at the residence of Gregg Phipps, sheriff's deputies found Aaron Harvey with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
According to sheriff's Capt. Dave Compomizzo, Phipps was awakened by a man who had come into his yard. After Phipps yelled out several times for the man to get back, followed by several verbal exchanges between the two, Harvey came up to Phipps' porch and eventually confronted him. Harvey was then shot in the abdomen, Compomizzo said.
Harvey was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he is undergoing surgery. His injuries are not considered life threatening, the sheriff's office said. Phipps was not arrested in the shooting, Compomizzo said.
