Default NJ Gunfight

I found this story on Fox interesting, particularly the Chief's comments about the shotgun.

A "pump action automatic shotgun" designed to "hunt a man." ??? Ok, so not every LEO or Chief knows every gun on the streets... at least he didn't call it an "AK."

Sounds like they went up against some serious badguys a little under-gunned, but the outcome resulted in favor or LEO's. I hope the officers recovery quickly and completely.

You gotta love it when the mayor shows his stupidity and the chief mimics the mayor's lack of knowledge. That is the problem not only with the antigun lobby but the entire federal government, as currently constituted and in control. At least the police were able to stop these thugs even though they eventually answer to ignorant people.

Here comes the call to ban both semi-auto and pump action SGs. Since they obviously don't know what the hell it was, they'll just cover all the bases and leave us with break-actions.

It saddens me that no one at Fox proof read the article and thought "WTF?!" A little clarification might have been in order before they posted the story.

As long as they ban only the semi auto, pump shot guns I guess we will be o.k.

Cheif Comey's statement to the press was obviously for the anti's who support the AWB. The BG had the "pump" shotgun concealed under a "monk" type robe. He got the drop on the officers that were approaching... Fortunately no good guys were killed in the exchange. Officer Mark DiNardo was shot in the face and is in critical condition. He is by no means out of the woods yet. He was in full cardiac arrest when he arrived at the hospital and had to be brought back several times. Please keep officer DiNardo in your prayers! He is going to have to have major reconstructive surgery to his jaw, sinuses, etc...

Living in South Carolina, the state of that wonderful Mr. Shakur while being raised by his grandmother, who is the thankfully dead centerpiece of the NJ shooting, a continuing story appeared in our paper concerning Mr. Shakur and his wonderful wife Amanda. His sister had begged him to turn himself into SC police but he told her that would never happen. His sister wanted to find "answers" to her brother's shooting. "Did they go in there with the intention of killing him?" "Did it have to go that far?" Answers are obvious. He was hiding the shotgun under a robe and began firing when police approached. He was in a stolen car. When police went to the apartment where he retreated to they were met with a volley of shotgun blasts before they ever fired a shot and two of the police were seriously wounded. He had been arrested in 2002 as a felon in possession of a firearm. He was named the prime suspect in an armed home invasion. He was wanted for an armed robbery in Jersey City and one worker was wounded in the robbery. The shooting was captured on video and he was ID'd as the shooter. I hope his sister gets her "answers"--her brother was a lowlife piece of garbage and the police did everyone a big favor. And what does the mayor and police chief have to say--it was an automatic shotgun and if only guns were banned--what a crock of crap.

The news and police never seem to let facts get in the way of a sensational story.

I concur...this dirtball got what he deserves......just not soon enough.

Jersey City officer Mark DiNardo succumbed to his wounds. I copied a quote from a fellow member at Policeone.com, He is right on the money!! Even the LE community hates this Socialist administration!!!

Detective Marc DiNardo passed on Sunday evening July 19, 2009 . He is presently on life support for the conservation of Transplantable Organs. My sincere condolences to Marc's Family , it is time for all of Law Enforcement to stand up to the Pandering Political Left that is and has been "Dismantling Law Enforcement" by not funding , reducing in numbers , the required amount of Police , Fire , and other Emergency Service persons needed to Safely Protect our Communities. One Man with his Agenda of Socialism is the reason. Even the "Lackey Head of the F.O.P. is groveling by endorsing in the name of ALL POLICE MEMBERS OF THE FOP " another Left Wing, anti-2nd.Amendment, Activist Judge for the Supreme Court. The carnage of Police needs to stop.

Default Follow Up

How the gunfight unfolded;

On the morning of Thursday, July 16, 2009, a Jersey City Police Lieutenant and Police Officer were staking out a parked car believed to have been the getaway car used in a violent robbery in which a person was shot. At 5:15 a.m two suspects, one male and one female, wearing bathrobes entered the vehicle, moved it across the street and stepped back out. The Lieutenant and Officer ordered the suspects to stop, but the male suspect turned, pulled a shotgun from under his robe and began firing, grazing one officer in the leg and shattering the windshield of the unmarked police car used in the stakeout.

The suspect then fled to a third-floor apartment on Reed Street and dozens of backup police officers from Jersey City, the Hudson County Sheriff's Office and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began arriving on the scene.

Officers spent the next hour and a half evacuating the building. At about 6:45 a.m., members of the Jersey City Emergency Service Unit, including Officer DiNardo, approached apartment 3B and demanded that the occupants come out. When no one answered, the officers used a battering ram to gain entry. Upon entering, the officers were immediately fired upon by the suspect. Officer DiNardo was shot in the face, and a second officer was shot in the neck. Additionally, another Jersey City Police Officer was wounded along with a Police Officer from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.

Both suspects were shot an killed in an exchange of gunfire with the officers as the officers entered the apartment.

It was later determined that the male suspect, who shot the officers, was a violent career criminal who had recently been released from prison, after serving five years for weapons possession charges that Officer DiNardo had arrested him on.

Officer DiNardo was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he died five days later from his wounds. His organs were all donated for transplant.

Officer DiNardo had served with the Jersey City Police Department for 10 years and was assigned to the Emergency Service Unit. He is survived by his wife and three young children.
