Hello to everyone and very happy I've found this site. I'm hoping someone had a similar situation and can help!

I had a applied for a pistol permit in 5/09, had my hearing in Putnam County Court and was denied due to the fact that I had failed to list arrests that happened in 1976 (I was 17 yrs old at the time). I provided the Court copies of the dispositions for the arrests. I explained to the judge that I honestly did not remember these arrests did not intentionally try to mislead the court in any way, but denied anyway. I have an appeal scheduled for 12/11/09 and hoping someone can give me some ideas. Do I need to hire an attorney?

Thanks!

I've read a few posts lately that suggest that CC is better than OC because you retain the element of surprise.

Coming from a martial arts background many techniques were more effective if you added and element of surprise but these were static exercises and the idea that the BG would wait until you surprised him before continuing to kick your butt ludicrous.

I believe this is the same for handguns. What's going to happen? A BG assaults or targets you but then...AHA! You show them your hidden weapon and they are too shocked to continue?

I believe that rather than an element of surprise you have to cultivate an aura of preparedness and awareness. Take the sheep, wolf, and sheepdog comparison if you will. The wolf knows not only the sheep but knows the sheepdog too and avoids the one that doesn't appear to be an easy mark.

He looks like a sheepdog, acts like a sheepdog, he must be a sheepdog.

Whether you OC or CC I believe you need to project the image of one that shouldn't be messed with and that is what is most valuable to you. The wolf wants easy prey so that they have more chance of success and less chance of failure or injury.

Concealed Handgun Permit Holders Have Killed 8 Law Enforcement Officers, 77 Private Citizens Over 2.5 Year Period According to New On-Line Resource

WASHINGTON - November 17 - Concealed handgun permit holders killed eight law enforcement officers and 77 private citizens (including 10 shooters who killed themselves after an attack) during the period May 2007 through October 2009 according to a new Violence Policy Center (VPC) on-line resource that tallies news reports of such killings. The web site, CCW Killers, is located at VPC - CCW Killersand is updated monthly to include new fatal shootings and changes in the legal status of concealed handgun permit holders facing criminal charges. (Any concealed handgun permit holders who are eventually acquitted of their alleged crimes are not included in the tallies maintained on the site although the facts surrounding the shooting are detailed.)

I'm currently reading "Shooting Straight: Telling the Truth About Guns in America" by Wayne LaPierre and James Jay Baker, and it got me to thinking about something that I want to discuss here. Let's just assume for the sake of argument that the right to keep and bear arms is entirely contingent upon membership in a "well-regulated militia." As everyone here knows, all males in this country are required to register for the draft (Selective Service) when they turn eighteen. In my opiniom, this satisfies the militia requirement of 2A, yet I have never heard gun rights advocates bring this up when arguing with antis. I could see this argument really being the trump card for our side. You guys' thoughts?

The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is back again for this year. It was reinstated it as a one-time budget provision. This will give them time to put something together next year. The holiday is the same as last year, Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. S.C. shoppers to get Energy-Star rebates 102309 - The Augusta Chronicle
COLUMBIA --- South Carolinians who want to replace old household appliances with new energy-efficient ones will receive discounts of $50-$500 in March under a state rebate program created by federal stimulus dollars.
Sign up for breaking news alerts from The Chronicle

John Clark, director of the Budget and Control Board's State Energy Office, said he expects the funding for the rebates -- $3.9 million -- to be exhausted in a few weeks of the rebate program.

Shoppers who take advantage of rebates on Energy Star certified refrigerators, dishwashers and hot water heaters must be state residents making purchases in state.

They also have to turn in their old appliances, which stores and contractors participating in the rebate program must agree to recycle.

It's not the first time Palmetto State officials have tried to give residents a break on green appliance purchases.

But the state Supreme Court scrapped an earlier program to create an October sales-tax holiday for energy efficient appliances when it ruled in May that the act was unconstitutional because of its unrelated parts. The legislation contained a month-long tax holiday for the appliances and a two-day holiday for firearms.

After the high court struck down the gun-tax-holiday, the legislature reinstated it as a one-time budget provision.

That means the "Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday" will have to be reapproved in upcoming years.

But this year, shoppers may purchase handguns, rifles and shotguns tax- free on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

However, lawmakers did not resurrect the tax holiday for energy-efficient appliances.
