Chicago - the new gun capital of the USA?

From this story it sounds to me like it took all of 2 months for this man to get his gun permit.

Perhaps the permit application should have asked this question:

"After you receive your gun permit and obtain a weapon, you should:

1. give the gun to your children to play with.

2. Pose for a picture with your gun for the Chicago Tribune (btw - the picture was removed from the site about 10:15 pm EST) and have the Chicago Tribune print your full name so everyone in Chicago will know you own a gun.

3. practice, practice, practice."

And let's not forget, the permit is not even to carry; it only allows you to possess handguns.
As for it being illegal to use a firearm to scare off a garage or car burglar, WTF?! Why is it illegal to display a firearm to a criminal (which, by the way, doesn't kill or injure him) to stop him from taking your things?
Even in the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling, Chicago still has the nation's worst gun laws. I would NEVER live there.
