    Apples and oranges.

NYC is the exception to the rule in any place common sense laws are enacted. It's best compared to Chicago, San Francisco or other cities with a large liberal demographic. NYC once had brutal crime rates. Because guns were not carried by common folks, exposure to a guns was usually related to crime. Thus the people of NYC have come to equate guns with crime. Liberal anti-gun rags like The NY Times perpetuated the myth. Loonies like Rosie O'Donnel added to the hysteria. The city is heavily populated by people from other countries where guns are non-existant. The populations of these large metro areas will not be convinced that it's OK to carry a gun. In some cases, like NY, the voting block constitutes over 40% of the entire state. Thus the state laws are affected by the demographic. If 90% of the NY upstate population votes for a GOP candidate, there are still enough votes in that 4X7 mile island of 8 million people to change the entire state. The electoral college is unbalanced by this. The desires of a single city control the entire state electorate.

Very BIG blunder on the lady's part. She should face the consequences. TSA should be held accountable as well. I'm all for citizens exercising their 2A rights, however we must do so in a lawful manner. No excuse on her part. This case illustrates why I'm for "on person" CC whenever legal/possible. Placing a loaded firearm in a bag or other carried possession creates a number of unnecessary problems.

There are so many holster options for both men AND women, that there's no need for folks to not carry "on person" short of a physical disability or medical condition.

Violations can result in state and local criminal prosecution, as well as civil penalties of up to $2,000 per violation.
It looks like the FOX News report was correct - there are no federal criminal sanctions for violating the TSA rules, just a federal civil fine.

States like Tennessee and Texas have such local and state laws. New York State does not. In Tennessee it is a misdemeanor and in Texas it is a misdemeanor to have possession of a firearm in the secure area of an airport.
