Default Another traveler charged with felony - 65-year old woman

A 65-year old women traveling with her firearm secured in her luggage has been charged with a felony...in Texas under Texas Law:

    § 46.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly
possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or
prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a)

    (g) An offense under this section is a third degree felony.
Maybe Governor Rick "Bloomberg" Perry will give her a pardon

If you read the article the firearm was not secure in her luggage but In her carry on luggage. Somehow she got through security with it and boarded her plane. Officials had to have her removed from the plane and then arrested.

Going off the reservation with this one don't you think?

First off, if your going to post quotes regarding the State Statutes, You should post the entire statute.

The sterile area of an airport is forbidden zone in every state in the nation. That take care of the law quote for you.

Woman had the gun in her bag. No explanation given in the article as to why.

The real question SHOULD be "How the TSA let her get her bag through the check point?". TSA scan a carry on bag with a gun in it and they let the lady walk away from the screening area with the bag and she gets on the plane before they figure out what is going on. I think the failing of the TSA is the big story not the woman with the gun.

Don't worry though. Obama will give the TSA a pardon on this.

Will you vote for someone else so no one thinks you're an idiot?

How the hell did she get out of security? That's CRAZY! And perhaps a HUGE oops moment on her part...Maybe she misunderstood traveling with an unloaded cased firearm in your checked luggage for carry on and since no one seemed to notice at security she didn't think anything of it?

She was charged by the State of Texas with a Texas felony.

This is Rick "Bloomberg" Perry's case. Not NY's. Not the Feds. Not NY City's.

Way to go Texas - violating a 65-year old women's 2nd amendment rights.

Lesson to all: DO NOT put your firearm into your carry-on bag, even just for the trip to the airport!! Who knows what might happen to cause one to forget it's in there?

    NOGODS:
If you're looking for the difference between NYC and TX it's OBVIOUS.

IN NYC: She would have been ARRESTED for criminal possession of a fiearm (a FELONY) if she tried to declare her unloaded firearm at checkin in the UNSECURE AREA of the airport so it could be placed into her checked baggage as required by law.

IN TX: HAD she declared her unloaded firearm at checkin in the UNSECURE AREA of the airport so it could have been placed into her checked baggage, no harm, no foul, NOTHING would have happened.

IN ANY AIRPORT IN THE US, INCLUDING TX AND NYC: Possession of a firearm in the SECURE area of the airport (past the metal detectors and TSA checkpoints) IS a felony. So is possession aboard a commercial aircraft unless one is a Federal Air Marshall or carrying under the Armed Flight Deck Officer Program.

How TSA managed to let the bag exit the scanner and allow the woman to pick it up, disappear into the crowd and actually board her flight is probably recorded somewhere on their security cameras. One would hope. Wonder how they FINALLY decided where she was?

Her 2A rights are not being violated. Federal law prohibits taking a firearm into a secure area of an airport. And you can't even compare Rick perry to Michael Bloomberg. Rick perry is actually a Texas CHL holder.

What part of "shall not be infringed" does the state of Texas not understand?

So I suppose in whatever state your in you can carry your gun into a secured area of an airport with no problem. I think not.

What part of "keep" (as in the right of the people to keep . . .) does NY and NYC not understand.

Oh, wait, they DO understand "keep". That's what they do with the personal property (firearm) involved, even on a "disturbing the peace" conviction. Because it is "policy".
