A man heard his cat screaming and found it dangling from a pit bull's mouth so he shot the dog dead, sheriff's deputies said.
Mark Ramirez, 38, was sitting in his home when his wife came inside Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. and told him their cat was being attacked in the front yard by a pit bull, a report states.
Ramirez heard the cat screaming and saw it in the mouth of a light brown pit bull in his yard at 1473 Keeling Drive. The cat was being shaken violently from side to side, deputies said.
The dog growled and stared directly at Ramirez, who felt the dog would attack him, so he grabbed his semi-automatic 9 mm pistol and shot the dog between the shoulder blades behind the head, the report shows.
A neighbor said Ramirez shot the dog at point blank range, deputies said.
As a deputy went looking for the owner of the pit bull, he heard Rosilda Gonzalez, 57, calling out for a lost dog, the report said.
Gonzalez said she let her dog out at 8:30 pm for a walk in her backyard and returned 10 minutes later to put it back in the house. Her dog had never escaped before, she told deputies.
Gonzalez described her pit bull and the deputy told her it had just been shot. A hysterical Gonzalez filled out a witness statement, deputies said.
A Deltona Animal Control Officer who responded to the scene found both owners at fault because "both animals were unrestrained." The owners agreed to resolve the issue between themselves and were not cited, said Deltona spokesman Lee Lopez.
The cat died, Lopez said.
Both Ramirez and Gonzalez could not be reached.
shyt happens ;yes, but i'm glad they agreed to work it out without courts and all

Both animals were unrestrained. Who restrains a cat?

Shot the dog in the back of the head point blank?....I thought the dog was staring the gun owner down viciously?
its amazing how many stories that author has posted about "pitbulls" without once posting a picture of the dog in the article or getting a vets confirmation of breed. This is the kind of author the ncrc warns about, and what makes the cdc study inaccurate.
God gets blamed for a lot of things now days, they ask “why would He let this happen?, Why doesn’t He stop it? I really don’t know, but I wonder if He wants to ask us the same questions. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing
My thought exactly and (pardon if it is mentioned) whose yard was this going on in. If it was the dog yard so be it--if it was the cat yard, different story IMO. Come on my property and growl funny I will use bear spray and if that does not work, and I am "touched" after this growling I will shoot the thing. It amazes me for all the very good policing that I see in my town, if I call police over a loose dog that is big enough and mean enough looking to cause me concern, they will ask me if it is "aggressive". What I infer from an answer of no is essentially "we may get to it and bygones be bygones" or "lets wait til it has a kid in its mouth and them we will know it is aggressive". So now I always answer yes and if the dog makes a move at me or even the feral cats ( that have been neutered) that "visit my home" I will protect--most likely with bear spray but, in the end with more definite actions.
I hate cats so my effing much.

The last time I checked, unrestrained cats never endangered the safety of innocent pedestrians or children playing outside.
The owner of the loose dog is the one who is 'at fault' i.m.h.o.

a cop was going to shoot my neighbors dog one day and whilst i'm not too fond of dogs myself i stopped him from doing so
thing is i called the cops after noticing my neighbors one dog was loose and went over to tell her they weren't home but her other dog was inside the house barking through the window at me... so i went home and got a large bowl of water to put by her front porch to keep the dog over on her property and when i did i noticed her other dog that was in the house was now out i was like wtf so i walked around the house to find the back door was wide open i called in and nobody answered. so i was thinking there could be an intruder in the house and hurried back home to call the cops so they could investigate the cop came and the one dog went back in the house by time he got there and the other dog was out front i found their leashes on the picnic table and got one hooked up but the other dog was protecting that back door and the cop drew his gun on him i said wait let me see if i can get him secured and i was afraid of that dog too it was a big pit but i asked the cop to let me try and i called it with the leash in my hand and it came over to me and i hooked it up and held both dogs in front while the cop cleared the house he came out after a bit and didn't see nobody in there or no evidence it was robbed so he was going to leave i asked him if it be ok i put those dogs back in the house and we can close the door.....but the door lock was messed up and it didn't stay shut enough and the dogs would just push it open again so i took their garbage can and put it in front of the door so the dogs couldn't get out but dang that cop was just going to shoot that neighbors pet like it was nothing.......the neighbor was thankful i stopped that from happening and the cop was surprised i had the balls to try and secure it but i just couldn't see him shooting the dog as it was not attacking him but it might have if he went tried to go in while it was in the house......but i think the officer was way to quick to draw his gun when he could have tried to secure it first

If you are going to own any animal, you should be responsible for them.
