DEVELOPING: A mass shooting at Ft. Hood military base in Texas has left at least 7 dead and 12 wounded and one suspected gunman is on the loose, officials told Fox News.

A massive manhunt was under way for the suspect at large, Fox News confirmed. One person was in custody. The New York Post said that there were two shooters at the Army base massacre.

The attack apparently happened at the base's Soldier Readiness Center. Army officials didn't know whether the victims were civilians or military personnel.

Other media reports said the number of victims remained unclear.

The men were reportedly dressed in Army fatigues, but military officials couldn't confirm that they were Army personnel.

The base and area schools were on lockdown after the mass shooting, and all those on the Army base were asked to gather for a head count.

The FBI was en route to Ft. Hood to provide assistance.

Angry 10 killed, 31 injured!!

One of the suspects was identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. It appears that he was muslim and also appears that this was planned!! What a Fu*king Coward!!!

As a veteran for the USAF, stationed in Texas and knew soldiers stationed at Fort Hood, I am deeply distressed and wish the injured soldiers a speedy recovery and my personal condolences to the families of the Honorable soldiers lost.

Seeing as how we are fighting the Nation of Islam I have always thought it a really dumb idea to have Muslims in or military. Kind of like letting the fox guard the hen house.

+1... I completely agree... political correctness is for dip sh*ts!! We are at war with Islam whether people want to admit it or not! Keep the dog-gone camel jockey's out of our military!!! Wishful thinking I'm sure since we have a Kenyan dork in office... a self proclaimed muslim!

By the way, the number of confirmed casualties is now 12 dead and 31 wounded.

Fox News is reporting that this Major is still alive. Maybe they can put him on trial for treason . . . .

Federal law enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood shooter had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats.

The officials say the postings appeared to have been made by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was injured but not killed during the shooting incident that left least 11 others dead and 31 wounded. The officials say they are still trying to confirm that he was the author. They say an official investigation was not opened.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.

One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.

A law enforcement official said Hasan, 39, was killed after opening fire at the base. Hasan was a licensed psychiatrist in Bethesda, Md. He got his Virginia psychiatry license July 12, 2005.

It was not known whether he was treating people at the base. Hasan received poor performance evaluation for Army hospital work, according to an Associated Press source.

The Virginia-born soldier is single with no children. He graduated from Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.

Officials says it was not clear what Hasan's religion was, but investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name and converted to the Islamic faith at some point.

According to the Army Times, Hasan was promoted to Major, medical corps on April 22, 2009. Hasan was about to deploy overseas, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson said. It was unclear if he was headed to Iraq or Afghanistan, and when he was scheduled to leave.

Jeff Sadosky, a spokesman for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, said the senator had been told that Hasan was upset about his upcoming deployment to Iraq.
