Exclamation What If...A tail of road rage

Hello and welcome to masterpiece What If Theater...Tonight's tail contains a wonderful drama of road rage and what to do...

You are driving and accidentally cut off a very large angry individual in a really menacing 4x4 truck. He follows you while riding your bumper, revving the engine and honking and gesturing both rudely and wildly. You make a series of right turns trying to get him to give up and leave you alone. The rental car you are driving is as gutless as they come. You are in a city you do not know and you do not have the home-court advantage. You are calmly driving around trying to find a police station or motor cop and mistakenly turn down a dead end street. Your favorite motorist blocks your escape with his truck and exits his vehicle with a large aluminum baseball bat and start walking towards you and your rental car.

    What do you do?

There are no witnesses out in their yards. 911 has put you on hold.

Do you jump the curb and drive through yards to try and escape?
Do you wait for him to come to the car and strike it before taking action?
Do you get out and take up a defensive position behind your rental car?
Do you challenge him verbally and let him know you are armed?
Do you drop him in the middle of the street?
Do you let him get within striking distance of the car and hit it with the bat to build credibility of your case in the use of deadly force?

    WHAT DO YOU DO?

How do you defuse this situation?

For the purposes of this exercise you are in a state that allows reciprocity with your permit. You have access to your weapon legally carried with permit.

I call 911, then with my left hand I put my CCW up against the window for him to see as he approaches while my right hand is fimly gripping my pistol somewhere out of view. If he attacks the car - let him. If he's trying to get to me and I have no way to escape, I show the weapon and tell him that I'll use it if he continues.

Or do you run over him? Actually I would try and get away if I can. If my care is blocked and I have no escape route I will have my gun in hand and give him orders to stop or I will shoot. If he begins to beat the car I will be ready to shoot and to prevent injury or death to my self I will shoot to stop the threat. Notice I said stop the threat not shoot to kill. If in shooting to stop the threat he happens to die then so be it.

This big SOB is comeing at me or my car with a baseball bat? I doubt there would be time to call 911, if I thought the threat was violent enough, depending on his actions at the time, theres a good chance he would not get within swinging distance with that bat, if he was smart enough to turn around when he sees my gun he will go home instead of a ambulance ride

If someone has blocked your escape and closing in on you with a baseball bat he doesn't want to exchange barbecue tips. He has taken this encounter to the next level. You are still allowed to defend yourself. I would roll down the window and present my weapon telling him he would be making a mistake coming any further. If he had any brains he would leave. If he continued to advance then I would shoot. When the police arrived at the scene to see you were blocked in, dead guy with a baseball bat laying on the ground it would be a clear case of self defense. How many people have been shot by the police for having a cell phone in their hands and the LEO saying he was in fear for his life because he thought it was a gun?

I'd calmly open my door, stand up, stretch, and let him get a full view of my buffet of manliness, and watch him pee his pants.

Of course, if he approaches while dampness spreads across his crotch, I'd probably have to tell him that any more forward progress might just meet 300 grains of .44 mag.

It's never gone that far, though.

well...not being 10' tall and bat proof I'd beat the piss out of the rental car jumping curbs, flattening mailboxes and rippin up flower beds to get away. If that didn't work I'd run him down like a rabid coon or shoot is dumb ass for bringing a bat to a gun fight

How many bystanders, i.e. witnesses did you just endanger?

Warn the guy that you are armed and prepared to defend yourself, possibly apologize for a perceived offense, OP stipulated 911 had put you on hold, shoot to stop the threat if needed. Aluminum bat constitutes a deadly weapon in this scenario.

In this scenario you have 2 defensive weapons, one your chosen side arm and two the 1 ton rental car with hopefully the insurance option selected. Either way the bat has no chance in this scenario.
