PLAINVILLE, Conn.-- Investigators say Plainville police officers who opened fire during a child pornography arrest outside a movie theater shot a fellow police officer in the arm.

Police say the suspect was reaching for his waistband Saturday morning when Sgt. Timothy Mullaney and Cpl. Jon Eno opened fire.

Officer Clifford J. Roper was struck by one of their bullets in the forearm as he arrived on the scene and a fourth officer, David Slater, was hurt by flying glass.

Police say 45-year-old Eric Gothberg is being held on charges of third-degree possession of child pornography. He was shot in the foot and did not have any weapons.

The state's major crime squad is investigating the shooting.

What an idiot, the cop that did the shooting needs some time off, and some serious retraining.

As I am neither speechless nor at a loss for words, I gotta ask: At a Harry Potter showing? Did they follow this guy to the movies, or what??

Nothing uncommon about cop shooting unarmed man - ask the ghost of Amadou Diallo.
Ask the dead woodcarver in Seattle who never knew the cop was there before he was shot.
If the cop says the magic words "I thought my life was in danger," it's a "Good Shoot."
Nothing all that uncommon about cops hitting other cops. Happens every now and then.
Trigger happy cops making bust in front of crowded theater is bad judgement, but hardly uncommon.

Cowboys or Cops..........me thinks Cowboys. Sad but true! Again, gives good LEO's a bad name.

Doesn't sound like good judgement or department policies were followed on this one. Very lucky that a citizen did not get shot or killed or one of the LE's for that matter. Damn shame and totally unprofessional.

Look, unless you were there, you don't know the situation.
You have 1/2 second to react. Assume BG reaching for his waistband, I don't know what he is reaching for. Assume he starts moving as COP 1 fires and he hits COP 2 in the arm as he rushes in to make the arrest. Heck I don't know, it doesn't look pretty. We only get what the media wants us to see.

However, the worst error I see is poor shooting. He only hit the BG in the foot. Really? Couldn't hit him in the elsewheres?!!!!

Really? When has it happened before? I'm not disagreeing that this was an uncalled for shooting, but it is far from common.
