Home Defense!

Home defense is a good topic to discuss. It's not always talked about but I think there's alot of people out there who have "Home Defense" firearms that don't pratice or prepare JIC. Not everyone who reads this forum are LEO's or sheepdogs that have the training to protect and serve. I feel that there's room to discuss what type of firearms are good for home defense and what type of pratice or training would be good for anyone who feels they should protect their own.(I Hope It's EVERYONE)

I agree, I believe the rule of thumb is "carry everyday" and go to the range at least once a month...

I have several options at my disposal but if there were some sort of "run-of-the-mill" intruder in my house, I think my Mossberg 500 12 gauge would be my first choice,,,,and you bring up a good point too about practicing,,,I need to look into getting a light capability on my shotgun.......holding a flashlight with that thing may not be logical....

I carry and use for home defense a Springfield 1911 Loaded. My light is a headlight and it really can light up a room. I also use Fragable rounds, I don't want to penetrate walls...just put a round in my visual target.

Perp's gonna aim right for that headlight. I prefer a surefire Z2 combat light with 120 lumens for the blinding affect. The evening G26 has TruGlo TFO sights and a CT laser. Good night-fighting rig.

If I were a perp, I'd try to put out the light PDQ...and that would put your HEAD at risk!

my house gun is a smith and wesson M&P .40 and it has a streamlight tlr-2 light laser combo attached to it. right next to it is a streamlight 200 lumen led. all else fails the mossberg 12g will be the next option, and i too need to get a light attached to the darn thing.

I practice by putting on my ghillie suit and stalking my cat through my house.

Seriously though, I have a plan. Mine is easy since I live alone (most of the time). Calling 911 is the 2nd thing I do......2nd only to picking up my bedside HK45.

I go to the range 2-3 times a month.

My home defense gun is one of my Glocks, a PM9 or LCP (whichever I have at the time and depends on mode of dress). At night, it will be an easily accessed Glock next to the bed but hidden from view from the foot of the bed or beside the bed. IF, IF given the opportunity to get to and open my safe, THEN my home defense gun is an AR.

Training? The shoot-house at Front Sight about once a year. Also, dry practice from various positions, and walking around the house once in awhile visualizing 'what if's'. Sound silly, but it's what I do.

Of course, putting on full camo and face paint while creeping around the neighbors yards keeps my senses sharp to... hehe

For home defense my weapon of choice is my Mossberg 590 shotgun. And I practice shooting regularly. Also I have my SP101 357 handy.

Home defense? Well, the Glock 22 loaded with JHP is my first weapon I grab. If I really felt like I needed more than that, I would load up my 3" magnum buckshot shells into the Mossberg 500. And if I needed more than that and had time, I would load up the M4. But then again, if I needed more than just my Glock, I would sit and wait for the police to take care of it.
