Default Campus carry bans, a failed system?

The Virginia Tech incidents occurred on just one campus, in just one state. Similar events have occurred on campuses throughout the country, each one a gun-free zone. How many more such incidents will need to occur before college administrators realize that gun bans simply do not protect the students, faculty, and staff from unpredictable acts of gun violence?

A failed system for sure, I have a friend at tech that is a Marine, holds a TN handgun permit, and taught a basic firearms class here in TN for 2 years before he moved off for military and school. Yesterday he was stuck defenseless in a classroom full of his peers all sitting and waiting to become victims.

So on top of denying their 2A rights, they would not allow them to leave?

Default Dismal failure - Contact your Representatives to support HR 2613

I am one of those working for a repeal of the federal Gun Free School Zones Act (GFSZA)(HR 2613), as well as legislation in Michigan that would do away with all other gun free zones not covered by the GFSZA. The numbers are clear. Including the most recent incident at VT, since the GFSZA was initially passed in 1990 there have been 217 shootings involving educational institutions and at least 15 involving churches resulting in a total of 704 casualties (deaths/injuries/hostages). If you add hospitals, shopping centers/stores, etc., those numbers escalate. And as they found out in Norway, a country with strict gun control laws, such laws do nothing to guarantee safety. The numbers speak conclusively to the failure of "gun free" or "pistol free" zones to 1) prevent individuals from bringing weapons onto the property in the first place, and 2) keep shootings from occurring. And to those who insist that waiting for police to respond is the only defense mechanism needed, at least one study showed that every minute it takes police to respond to a shooting event, the number of casualties can increase by up to 7. Gun free zones have managed to accomplish one significant result: they guarantee areas in which quantities of defenseless soft targets are available to a shooter.

VA now allows CC for any school that receieves state funding. I believe it only applies to non-students though...

Gun free zones only work if you can keep them gun free.

I wish they would change it for all campuses. I work at one in VA also that just started approving concealed carry for staff. I'm still awaiting approval but its great to know their starting it now.

Typical liberal- I am just so confused... I thought no guns were allowed on campus so how come people keep killing people on campus with guns?

Person with brain- No guns allowed on campus huh, what a great place for criminals to prey on the defenseless.
Why do I carry a gun? Because a cop is too heavy.

    Now here is an argument!

Most, if not all, college campus buildings are equipped with a fire suppression (sprinkler) system. It is designed and installed with the intent of saving lives in the unlikely event of a fire. Imagine then, a fire in a college dormitory in 2007 where two students were killed because the sprinkler system didn't work. Two hours later, another thirty students died across campus again, because the sprinkler system did not do what it was designed to do. Four years later, another death due to fire. How long would it take for the college administration to realize there was a major fault with the sprinkler system? How many parents would be up in arms to replace the system with something that at least gave students a chance for survival?

in Michigan, in accordance with the GFSZA, those possessing a CPL can carry openly in GFSZ (concealed while in their vehicle traveling through the GFSZ or remaining in their vehicle while picking up their child), but may not discharge the firearm under any circumstances without facing criminal charges. A fat lot of good that does when it all goes down the toilet!!
