Default Getting new gun in on Saturday, hehe... Kel-Tec SU16B

It'll be primarily my bug-out carbine, attached to the bag itself. It'll be in it's folded configuraion and ready to go.

Anybody else use one in this role? Thoughts? opinions?

It sounds like an ideal choice for that purpose. If I wasn't so attached to my Mini-14, I'd probably get one myself. Have fun breaking it in.

I do not own a Mini-14 currently, but I do have a love affair with it! Have you ever used the M1 Carbine? I've got two and love 'em!!! They are sorta like a "mini" Mini-14 in a lot of ways. They both use a short-stroke gas system and of course, are related to the great M1 Garand & M14... :-)

I'll hopefully have a blast breaking it in! A few hundred rounds should do it.

I have one of those! Mine had a few hiccups early on but has since been flawless.

Just keep in mind you bought the lightest version with the thinnest barrel ... it heats up real quick. If you unfold the bipod it allows for much better heat dissipation BUT WATCH YOUR HANDS if you do that.

I never could warm up to the standard hunting style grip and changed mine to an AR grip and shoulder stock (Kel Tec sells that for a good deal of mullah but it's quality material). Should you consider this, note that you can STILL fold the gun with the AR grip, JUST NOT as completely as with the standard grip.

Yeah, I expect most new guns to have a hiccup or two. I wouldv'e prefered the SU16C, but haven't been able to get one of those around here. The dealer I'm getting this one from was lucky enough to have this one available today, so I told him to order it before it was gone. It's coming from rsrgroup.com and they have a hard time keeping Kel-Tec's in stock.

I don't expect that I'd ever actually fire more than 200rds in quick secession in a real world situation, though I'll sure as hell test and train as such.

    Thanks for the advice!!! :)

I've not had the pleasure of firing the M1 Carbine. It is definitely on my list of guns to buy when I win the lottery. I often kick myself for not buying one of those and an M14 back when they were affordable.

For now, I have the Mini, and an M1 Garand. I love that Garand action!

Let us know how the SU performs. I'd be especially interested in knowing how it handles the cheap steel-case ammo from Russia.

    Have fun and be safe.

I have the SU-16C and have really enjoyed it. I bought it because it fold up and fits in a back pack or weekend bags when heading out to fish or camp out. Plus the pilots in float planes feel better about firearms not in view, even though most carry firearms there selfs. I'm waiting for Kel Tec to make more of their Pistol Grip Collapsible AR Stock Adapter Kit with Collapsible AR Stock. I understand it makes the rifle seem like a better and different one all together. Like someone else stated about it getting hot,he is 100% correct,I found out the hard way.

The grip and stock mod really made it much more comfortable for me, plus I have to admit it just looks better. One could argue "if you want something that looks like an AR, why don't you just buy one?" but the Kel Tec is still rather different in the way it operates and the materials used.

Took it out today. Put 200rds of American Eagle 55gr brass through it with zero failures! It handles rapid fire well with no issues.

I did however find it to be a little inaccurate. At about 70yds, from a prone position it was hitting 5in(ish) left of center. This was with stock iron sights that I hadn't adjusted yet, however it being peep rear and post front... the front post is the important part. I was able to aim left of center and consistantly hit the target though.

I'm going to do some more testing, closer, further, maybe different ammo too and see what I get. Either way, for its purpose of bug-out-carbine I'm happy! Hell, it's made of plastic and folds in half... it wasn't made to drive nails.

I'll keep the thread updated. Oh, yeah... it does get hot fast, lol.
