Hi all im new to the site but been active hunter in illinois. Jus started shotgun deer hunting. Was wondering if anyone new is it alright to have a handgun with me as a self defense while out hunting or is it illegal in illinois. I cant seem to find info on it if its legal or not. I dnt see y not im out hunting already with a shotgun

You need to look at whether or not you can legally carry a handgun at all in your area, then go look at the hunting regulations.
This page says that you cannot carry a handgun in IL unless it is unloaded among other things, so I assume the answer to your question is no.

it is legal to hunt with a handgun. the certain caliber size n length in barrel. and no u cant carry it onnvisously in public. but during season. u can i found all my answers. thanks though
Glad I live in MN, you can have a handgun on you while hunting and don't even have to have a permit. Much more human to finish a deer off with a handgun :)
