What is he buying it for? Just to strictly use at the range or for self defense?
My friend is thinking about buying a hi-point 9 compact. Buying mostly on cost and likes the feel as well. Thanks

Sic vis pacem, para bellum
1 step down from a hi point would be a bullet held with a pair of vice grips hit with a ball peen hammer. just saying
Friends don't let friends buy high point anything...
I own two Hi-Points, the 9mm and the .40. The 9mm is my concealed carry. I have been happy with both, and the manufacturer has a lifetime warranty on the firearms. I recently inherited my .40 from a deceased retired federal officer who didn't take care of the gun at all, and ended up sending it back to the factory for repairs. Even though I wasn't the original owner and the damage was caused by neglect, Hi-Point replaced the slide at no cost, and threw in a new mag to boot. While I eventually hope to own a Glock, at this time I own two weapons that are dead-on accurate, reliable, and that don't break the bank to own.
I have a couple specific guns to purchase first but... after reading to many threads where Hi Points are bashed I went to check out their products.
Heavy for sure. My 9mm loaded with 15 rounds weighs less than their .380 empty. BUT, at $140 and an unconditional warantee. Im thinkin it would be perfect for my kid. Would make a great second gun when hunting for him.
I have to agree with ezkl2230. I also own two Hi Points, a 9mm and a .45, with the 9mm as my carry. Both are dead-on accurate and reliable, and I didn't have to take out a bank loan to purchase them.
I have a C9 and have over a thousand rnds through it without a failure. The gun is large for concealed carry, but makes a good nightstand unit as it will take +p+ ammo. It's a fun gun to plink with at the range and it's easy on your hand. It will also exceed your accuracy expectations.
Biggest Concern: It uses the firing pin to eject spent shells. This means you should not eject a live rnd, it has the possibility of firing when the shell would be half ejected.
I keep the C9 on my boat without a chambered shell. I also carry it in the Jeep when we go on desert runs in Yuma. The desert load is a shot shell used for snakes when/if needed.
For Concealed Carry, I use my LCP or LC9 with a chambered round.
