Shots fired at the mall. Imagine that. It looks like Guy 1 (Runner) is hit before he gets in the door. He was running to a place of safety, perhaps? (The Mall?) BG1 follows - shoots him, gun jams. (Wasn't a Glock I guess. - Just saving you guys some time.) Uses gun as club. Runner it appears is trying to get his gun. - Mexican carry? (Don't do this.) Runner loses gun to BG2 who is coming in and then it is used on him.

Unbelievable. What a nightmare for the family! How could they not see this? It is all over the internet!
What could he have done besides.
    a) Don't be a banger / drug dealer / mess with GF, etc? (Which we don't know for sure.) We are making some broad, albeit most likely accurate assumptions. What if BG1 really wanted the jam box?
    b) Run faster? He was hit before he got to the door.
    c) Learn to carry properly? blah, blah, blah.

There are many goofy and down right stupid answers to this sad situation.

For me, the real question is: What do I or YOU do if you are walking toward the exit as this is coming in toward you? You hear shots, see the door open, Runner stumbles in followed by BG1 who is shooting guy on the ground. You are with your wife, children. 15-30 feet away. (That ain't far.)
    a) Stand there get hit by ricocheting bullets?
    b) Become Sheepdog 1?
    c) Hide family? Watch from safe distance? i.e. Stay the heck out of it if at all possible.

This is a sad situation that anyone could walk right in the middle of without trying.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but the thought was running through my mind as I watched it. Honestly, there are too many other factors to make a real decision.

I too was wondering what would I do if I saw this...I don't know. Most likely, get the family out of the area and that's that. In this type of situation it's too hard to tell who is who and what is happening. Not that LEO's would shoot him while he is down (and these are CLEARLY NOT LEO's), but if only from the initial 15 seconds, LEO shoot suspect after he pulls a weapon outside, they hit him twice, he stumbles through the door and you see the "attackers" running after him, draw your weapon and take them down, only to find out you just shot two cops.

AGAIN THIS VIDEO IS NOT THE POLICE!!! But that type of situation could occur. I'd run with the family. Take that for what it's worth. Now given other circumstances, I may get involved.

Good points. With no background info on this, none of us know who these people are or what they are doing. Whether you were there inside the mall or not, you wouldn't know what happened leading up to this, and its not our job to sort it out.

Call 911. Get out of there. Be ready in case they decide to take on you as well.

Did anyone time this. The guy with the backpacks bugged out prior to their entrance so he saw what was coming.

As disturbing as these videos are, they add value and prompt things to consider. Being aware and ready constantly seems to be the theme. This one is just as horrific. Notice the guy didn't have a round chambered and it probably cost him his life. This didn't seem like a robbery, but more of a assassination. One thing that would probably be hard to train for is the noise that would occur. It's easy to be a commentator on a silent security video. Add loud noises and confusion and consider if you could handle the life or death situation any better. I guess not living the thug life is an even better deterent.

The thing I take from this is the guy getting shot, is hit several times. And he is still fighting. Proves if you are going to shoot a bad guy, better hit center mass. Secondly, he was obviously not carrying in the best way. And third, those guys really wanted HIM dead. Last, and most important, just because i carry, does not mean i will survive a brutal attack like this. I feel bad for the victims family. He may have been a bad guy or maybe just a target of a gang initiation. Hard to say without more info, but this is for sure an eye opener of just how bad some people are.

Question; What should he have done differently?

Answer; Always carry in Condition 1 where it is properly secured & within easy reach at all times.
Avoiding the wrong kind of people also helps.

It looks to me like they 'really' wanted that bag he was carrying too. Probably drugs inside??

I also was thinking the same thing. What would I do if this happened in front of me? You can see people and cars passing by just outside the doors. If I was standing directly as the camera is positioned, I would have a hard time discharging with no back drop but pedestrians and cars. I would have tried to slide to the left and engaged if possible so I'd have a wall as back drop. I carry 45JHP and at that distance after going through the BG it would keep going. BUT this is Monday morning quarterbacking not tenths of seconds.

I'm sure someone will disagree with me but there it is! Don't think I really could be at the scene without engagement. I just ain't wired that way.

    According to Texas Law...

A person is justified in using deadly force against an attacker to protect another person if he would be justified to use it to protect himself against an unlawful attack and he reasonably believes his intervention is immediately necessary to protect the other person from serious injury or death."

In Texas, a CHL holder would be well within his rights to intervene.

It could either be heroic or foolish, depending on how skilled he is with his weapon.
