Default 4 week one year AR build

I go and pick up my complete upper for my AR15 tomorrow after work.
So the story goes that I started building my AR back in February of 2011 by build I mean I bought my stripped lower. Sense then I have purchased and assembled the lower parts kits and I did that within a week of having the lower. Up until 2 weeks ago it has sat in my safe untouched because I started buying other guns(working for a gun shop a lot comes across me that I might like to have) so 2 weeks ago I decided I would not buy any other guns until I finish my AR. So as you see u have managed to finish it in a total of 4 weeks spanned over almost an entire year.

But I am just as excited to go get my upper tomorrow as I am to get any gun and wish I wouldn't have waited so long.

Has anyone else had experiences like this? If so what's your story? I look forward to reading them, hopefully I am not alone here.

It took about a month to put my AR pistol together. I bought the upper and the stripped lower at a gun show in November. It took about a month to do all my research to make sure I wouldn't be breaking any firearms laws. Once I knew I was legit I picked up a RRA lower parts kit and an Ace pistol buffer kit and started my assembly. I was delayed once when I had to wait for my roll pin punches to arrive and when I had to find a replacement takedown pin detent. The tool I was using to hold in the detent slipped and that thing took off like a rocket. I added Magpul flip up back up sights and for Christmas received an Eotech HWS to throw on top. I might some day add a riser for the Eotech because it is a little low but other than that I really like the finished product. It is very close in size to my Draco-C but had a better balance.

I did discover that she does not like to fire steel cased ammo. I struggled through a box until I had a casing stick in the chamber. I ended having to pound it out with a cleaning rod. I can live with this limitation. I have started buying brass ammo on sale and am saving the brass and will look into learning to freeload next year. So I the long run I think it will be better than tweaking to get the steel stuff to run.

    Anyhow, that's my story.

I've been working on my M4 style AR-15 for years..... might take a few more to get it right. I have a pre-ban AR-12A2HBAR I bought 23 years ago so I have no need to rush. I started with the optics.... both and ACOG and M68... still haven't made up my mind. need to get the Surefire 45 degree offset iron sites. flip up sites work with M68, but not ACOG. MagPul UBR stock, ladder rail covers and battery assist device. Badger Ordnance Tactical charging handle latch even though I don't have the charging handle yet LOL. Leaning towards Sig 516 Patrol upper. I want piston operated and 1in7 to 1in6 twist rate. most uppers are 1in9. My other retired buddies give me a hard time "Still fighting the last war". I'm building what I would have preferred to deploy with. Not wildly different, just improved. My budget is limited so it will take time. Take your time and do it right. Good luck and stay safe.

Spent 4 months picking and choosing and buying parts off of different forums while waiting on the Form 1.

I just buy parts that I find on the cheap until I accumulate enough to make something.
