Default Ruger LCP vs Ke Tec P-3AT

That's KelTec not Ke Tec - guess you can't edit thread titles :(

Looking for little ankle pistol. I've narrowed it down to the Ruger LCP and the KelTec P-3AT. Looking at the specs, it would appear that the KelTec is smaller than the Ruger, however, I just looked up some YouTube videos and that does not appear to be the case.

Regardless, I'm leaning toward the Ruger.

Also. I've had custom leather holsters made in the past, but in truth I'm happiest with simple Velcro band holsters. Any good recommendations for these?

    Thanks

The wife and i both carry lcp and ankle holsters every day. Uncle mikes size 10 is great for all day and very secure even running for a cheap holster. Love them both.

They are similar size-wise. I think the ruger's slide locks open after the last shot, whereas the keltec does not. The ruger may have a magazine safety, but I'm not sure on that issue, whereas the keltec will fire a chambered round without the magazine in place.

I have an LCP with a couple of extra mags, original box and gun pouch with a PDA style holster and Fobus paddle(right handed) that I would like to sell so I can upgrade to an LC9. PM me if you have any interest.

The LCP does NOT stay open after the last shot. And I am not sure about firing a chambered round with out a clip but now I'm going to have to try it. My wife has a Blackhawk ankle holster for her LCP that she likes so far.

I have the Kel-Tec and will be replacing it with an LCP in the future. I miss not having a slide lock, among other things. Both, I understand are equally reliable, after a good break-in of 200 rounds (mfg. recommended). I carry mine in a pocket holster. It works well in all seasons and apparel.

LCP Will fire without the mag in place. Has a small "window" so you can see if a round is in chamber.

The Kel-Tec and LCP would both serve your purpose. Having said that, I prefer the LCP.

Thanks for the Uncle Mike's recommendation. I looked up the ankle holster and think it will do the trick.

And thanks everyone else for contributing. Looks like the Ruger has it.

You're right about the LCP not locking open and it will fire without a magazine. The LC9 has a magazine interlock that won't allow it to fire without a magazine and it will lock open after the last round.
