I guess we just didn't point guns at things we weren't ready to kill. XD

Well I'm glad Jeff Cooper came along and told us not to do that. I wouldn't want to do anything without consulting Jeff Cooper first

    Default my 2 cents

I don't believe the rules need to be absolute. But they need to be so ingrained in your psyche that you need to make a conscious decision to violate them.

When cleaning my gun, I have the barrel pointing away from me even while I'm pulling a Bore Snake through. Not because I'm afraid it might go off, but because it is a habit to not point the barrel at myself.

All guys are ALWAYS loaded. People get shot by unloaded guns ALL the time.

When talking about the 4 rules with my kids I always change the first rule:

    1) Always treat every gun like it's loaded -- and REAL!

Sometimes guns can look like toys (anything that's non-black/wood, such as pink rifles or handguns)... or worse yet, toy guns can look like real ones.

By teaching my kids that they have to consider EVERY gun, toy or not, as if it's loaded AND real, hopefully they'll be able to avoid any potentially tragic situations.

I hope you're joking. Guns require bullets in them to shoot people. An unloaded gun doesnt have bullets in it.
