Default Steel guide rod vs Plastic guide rod?

Are there any advantages in having a steel guide rod instead of a plastic guide rod?

Could one small advantage to steel or tungsten be the little bit of added weight for slightly lessened felt recoil?

If you have to resort to beating someone to death after you ran out of ammo because you're using a 9mm with no take-down capability, a steel guide rod would provide more structural rigidity to the frame/slide assembly, thus mitigating the chances that you'll deform your otherwise plastic pistol.

Just be a man, and replace the plastic guide rod with a 1911 chambered in .45 ACP.

Oh... wait - you said it's a .40S&W. Whatever. You should still replace it with a 1911.

A RIA M1911A1 GI will run you from $325-$350, so it's still relatively inexpensive to be a man. Besides, the 1911 pistol has existed in its current for over 100 years. That fact alone defines the very term "innovation", and all of the semi-autos that followed it are mere variations on the original 1911 theme.
