His family did not attack the young lady, he did. I am sure that his family is troubled by this as well as many many other people. I am also sure that many people are blaming his family just as you seem to be doing and they also will need help in understanding why he did this and what, if any role, they had in it.

If my child were to commit murder it would cause me pain no matter what the circumstances were. One thing that I have repeatedly told my children is that no matter what they do I will never quit loving them. I may not take their side or proclaim that they are innocent but I will still love them.
