    Default Hypothetical question

With the way laws are, especially in Massachusetts, I got to thinking about expired LTC permits. Being that all of our guns are registered and I am ASSUMING the PD could easily know which permits have expired and where the guns SHOULD be, could the police theoretically knock on your door and either confiscate your guns and/or arrest you for not having a permit? Or would something like this require a search warrant which would simply be bringing on more work than the PD can handle?

What prompted me to think of this is I was talking to a co-worker about possibly going out to the range and he told me his permit had expired years ago and hasn't shot since.

    Thoughts?

Just like having an expired drivers license and being stopped and asked to hand it over, not a good thing. If a CC license is expired maybe that person should'nt be carrying.
Get it renewed BEFORE it expires, just like a drivers license.
    Just saying.

I understand that but with an expired permit, you aren't allowed to OWN.

I just got confused. With an expired permit you aren't allowed to OWN? Are you saying to own a gun in Mass you have to have a permit? I must have hit my head and woke up in outer mongolia! I hope that is not what you are saying.

If it is.... I turned down a job in Ill., but I would move the first chance I got. I am not trying to be a S.A. Just help correct my ignorance of the laws in Mass.

Too bad Mass isn't in the United States. In the United States you don't need a permit to own a gun just need one to carry concealed.

I am with you here...really! my young children have guns ever since they were about 10 but they didn't have to have a permit to own one either. They got their CCW when each of them turned 21 years of age, one way or the other. It used to be 23 years of age here in MO to get a CCW but this year the authorities lowered it down to 21 years of age. My husband took them shooting but I was too stupid at the time. Permit to carry, age 21,permit to own, no age as long as we deemed it as parents that it is safe for them to own one.

In the State of Massachusetts, you can't buy AMMO without a permit. Much less own a gun.
