I want to know how many guys/gals here have actually taken real training classes

I have been following a lot of posts here in all categories for many months and finally decided to post some questions. I have determined based upon the remarks, questions, opinions, and attitudes I have read about and observed that seemingly very few folks here have had any real quality training at all, ever! I hope I am wrong but doubt it.

I am talking about training lasting 4-5 days at least 10 hrs a day. On the order of GUNSITE, FRONTSIGHT, THUNDER RANCH, SEATTLE FIREARMS SCHOOL, US TRAINIG ACADEMY, LFI, etc... I may have left out a few, but u get the idea. Half of the classes are on the line and half in class rooms.
I base my thought on some of the remarks here. I have seen people state what sort of incident would provoke them into shooting at someone, and from my education it would seem not to qualify prima facie for self defense.

My question today is what factors on the surface do you readers believe would justify a self defence shooting. As a start I will hint in general you need at least 4 factors, possibly 3 minimum, but in rare circumstances. Usually all 4.

I took a 2 day class at Frontsite in March 2011. I have a four day course that I have yet to attend. This was a pretty intense course, included a trip through the shoot house (cool) and a lot of disscussion about self defence. I also attended a cheesy 4hour course so I could get a CCW permit in my state and the one next door.
factor 1; you are in immediate danger
factor 2; you are at risk of death or extreme injury
factor 3; YOU must be the one at risk.

After reading your post, I’m fairly certain that you don’t have any English composition or grammar training. I may be wrong but I doubt it.

As for what is a "good shoot" for self-defense....if you have to ask or are wondering, that's not it. You'll know it when it happens.

If it's more important to use your weapon than it is to not use it, you live with whatever consequences come after making that decision. With any luck, an average person (out of 12) will agree with you.

You kind of sound like an 'elitist' & quite possibly a troll to be quite honest. But okay, I'll bite.

I trained in Fort McClellan, Alabama's Military Police School (U.S. Army) And I graduated honorably in June 1992. I also have numerous years of additional training as a Military Police Officer with the California Army National Guard. I have since been Honorably Discharged.
I also have over 14 years of armed security Officer experience including 4 years of Federal Reserve Police Officer experience.
I have also been the victim of two different armed robbery's when I was younger at my uncles liquor store in Lake Elsinore, California. (I actually shot the guy in the second incident with my uncles Browning Hi Power 9mm ~Made in Belgium~).
I was only 17 years old at the time.
I also survived another robbery attempt one night at a drive thru ATM (4 guys) who blocked me in with 2 different cars. They took off like the rat cowards they are when they soon realized that I was prepared to use deadly force against them with my Ruger GP100 357 Magnum Revolver. (I was 28 years old in that incident).


Now I have some questions for you 'NYMike'...
What 'qualifications' and 'training' do YOU have?
And are you suggesting that a Law Abiding Citizen with less training than you or I should NOT be allowed to carry a concealed sidearm??
Let me guess, You probably agree with Mayor Bloomie's anti-gun stance also?
Are you 'one of those' cop's that believes that You are somehow better (more superior) than regular Law Abiding Citizens?
Are you one of those 'elitist types' who believes that 'only cops' should be allowed to legally carry handguns?
In my years of experience, I have unfortunately met a few cops with that 'elitist' mindset.
Don't get me wrong here, most cops are good & decent people. But there are always a few that have a superiority complex.

I attended the 4 day defensive handgun course at Frontsight and thought it was very very good!!Their prices are high unless you find one of their specials.which seem to be floating all over! I actually paid a total of $119.00 To attend the 4 day course! A real great value! A very good friend and good shooter also attended with His Wife!,they both really enjoyed it and felt it was very worthwhile.

Training is never ending. I have taken, and instructed, ethical use of lethal force, less lethal force, home firearms safety, personal protection, basic pistol. I've also audited LFI level 1, and had a chance to speak to Mass Ayoob at length about course content, and how much of his info we could use in our classroom. I must say he was extremely accomodating. I have been trained as a designated marksman in the military, have taken advanced combat shotgun training, and have qualified with a number of full auto weapons. I have taken firearm specific training in the 1911 Colt .45 as well as the S&W Model 15 revolver, also referred to as the K-38 combat masterpiece. I have shot competitively (not well, but it was competition) with the M-1 Garand. My training included the aforementioned LFI, National Rifle Association Instructor Certification training, United States Air Force Law Enforcement training, a short course in long range M-16 marksmanship courtesy of the Army. These are just some of the training opportunities I've had the good fortune to attend. I highly recommend all shooters get as much training as possible, and at the same time NEVER promote legislation that would make training mandatory. What Government 'gives' you can just as easily be taken away.

I started out my shooting life at age 8, with at the time, advanced training from my father that I now realize was actually quite limited and mediocre at best. I got a lot more instruction in the Boy Scouts and being a member of my High School Junior ROTC Rifle Marksmenship team. I received for more advanced weapons handling and combat training in the US Army. I've taken CCW classes and Armed Security Guard classes. I've also received training in the fine art of pepper spray use and am fully trained and certified in the use and operation of the M26 Taser. In my last two training classes I have experienced first hand the effects of using and receiving discharges from the M26 Taser and MK4 Pepper Spray. Pepper Spray sucks but I could still run away. The M26 Taser effectively kills you for 5 seconds at a time and I mean it completely stops you from doing anything but fall and feel a whole hell of a lot of pain. I am just so happy I was zapped by the police M26 and not the civilian Tazer that continuously zaps you for 30 seconds. 5 seconds of agony was an eternity. 30 seconds must feel like a never ending world of hurt. In the 5 seconds you could have killed me anyway you wanted and I was powerless to stop it.
If only Tasers offered multiple shots like a semi auto mode.
