If they carry the Bodyguard in .38 and say the .380 is illegal my mind has just been blown. That's also California for ya , In reality it probably doesn't comply to CA firearm standards.

That's a good question i also don't know. The only response i can think of sayin is "it is California." On the others if your looking for something for the woman with cheap ammo and im guessing light kick, have you considered looking at .22s

You mentioned price of ammo as a main concern. In that regard, .380ACP is more expensive than it' "next door neighbor"...9mm. That being the case, you might consider the Ruger LC9, which is legal in California.

I own the Bodyguard .380 and it is ok to shoot. I only carry it if I just cannot carry any of my other guns though. As far as being cheap to shoot, think again! It is more expensive to shoot than my 9mm. Last box of ammo I got for it was $35 for 100 vs $20 for 100 9mm. As said by hobbick, the cheapest to shoot would be a good .22.

As far as it not being CA legal, I have no idea. Just makes me glad I don't live in CA!

For a handgun to be sold in CA, three of them must be submitted to the DOJ through a licensed testing agency, where they are subjected to a series of "safety" tests to be sure we won't accidentally hurt ourselves. If the gun is a new design of pistol, it must have a magazine safety and loaded chamber indicator as well or it won't even be accepted for testing.

Recently LAPD aproved the S&W Bodyguard 380 for off duty and backup carry.
They will not oK the lazer version at this time.
I do carry a Bodyguard 380 as a ccw. Works really well.
