Thumbs down 10 Dead, 41 Hurt in Violent Chicago Weekend, hows that gun ban working for ya?

One man was shot in the head and another in the back Monday night, the latest incidents in a violent holiday weekend in Chicago.

Police said a group was standing in the 1700 block of East 68th Street around 10 p.m. in the city's South Shore neighborhood when someone fired shots. One man was shot in the head and died, and another was struck in the back and transported to a local hospital.

In total, 10 people died over the weekend and 41 were hurt in shootings since Friday night across Chicago.

On Tuesday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Supt. Garry McCarthy will outline new strategies to reduce crime. According to the mayor's office, they will announce "coordinated gang-reduction and neighborhood safety strategies."

Emanuel hasn't been shy in speaking out about city violence.

Last month when statistics showed Chicago Police had recorded a 60 percent spike in murders during the first three months of 2012, he told the media a culture change needs to be made.

"Nobody can be comfortable or sanguine about it and nobody should," he said. "If you're a resident of the city, and a child is shot in Little Village, that's a child in the city of Chicago. It's not in another part of the city."

This weekend's most violent period was an hour-and-a-half stretch early Sunday morning when 13 people were shot.

The weekend's youngest victim is a 7-year-old girl shot Saturday afternoon in the arm. She is expected to be OK.

vehicles are registered, you are even required to go through drivers education and pass a test to get a license to drive one, how can this keep happening ? - people in vehicles keep running over pedestrians - I think this proves that we need more and tougher vehicle control laws and a new federal Department of Vehicle / Pedestrian Safety, the DVPS - - - <end sarcasm>

The city (state really) is run by unions (i.e. crooks), not politicians (also crooks) or the people (only some of whom are crooks :))

I drive around the POS state whenever I go to Milwaukee.

Yeah the first 3 letters in the state name should give a clue as to a reason to not move or live there
