Does anybody know why Bushmaster would shut down and sell the company
The parent company that owns Bushmaster is doing it.
They aren't closing down, they are selling off the assets.
It's parent company's parent company is Cerberus. They have had plenty of bad press in the past and are just bailing early.
Seems a little shocking because of the boom in firearms but these are very politically connected people (part of the reason they draw bad press). Maybe they knew about Obamas plan (President Obama Speaks - Get Ready for an Assault Weapons Ban Battle) and thought better to show they were backing away first.
Contrary to the socialist/fascist country the piece of garbage envisions, capitalism is still alive and well. You follow the money and find the reason for a company being sold. It always comes down to profit and loss and whether your money can be invested elsewhere for a better return.
here 's what i found so far
Bushmaster became part of the Freedom Group, owned by Cerberus Capital Management, when owner Richard E. Dyke, who had purchased the company in 1978, sold the company to Cerberus in April, 2006. [2] On December 18, 2012, following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Cerberus announced that it will sell Bushmaster in order to protect the interests of its clients. [3]
They are not closing down or selling. The investment company that owns the dozen or so companies that the freedom group is made up of is selling.
Kalifornia teacher's retirement funds are invested in Cerebus. Teachers squawked. That is why they are selling off the group that holds Bushmaster. (in a nutshell)
Stop, Drop, and Roll won't work in Hell.
