My buddy owns about 2500 acres of land out in Madras, Oregon. He turned a portion of it in a private 1000 yard rifle range He wanted to see if Marines are truely the worlds best marksmen- At 1000yds I said that I could make it a headshot on his steel plate targets with his .50 Cal ... and of course I gave him the headshot he was looking for!
He said- "damn beginners luck,,, gimme one in the chest!"
Second shot 1000 Yds same 50 Cal. chest shot!![]()
They now do not doubt, Marines are clearly the best marksmen in the world.

All this Army guy sees is somebody shooting and two spotters, neither of which say a word. :neener:
Nice range though, sounded cold.
I don't know about the best marksman in the world, but you are sure a lot better than me! :)

That's some nice shooting, doublenutz! Some intersting info...
The longest kill is now held by a Canadian.
The current world record for the longest range sniper kill is 2,430 metres (2,657 yd), accomplished by a Canadian sniper, Corporal Rob Furlong, of the third battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI), during the invasion of Afghanistan, using a .50 caliber BMG (12.7 mm) McMillan TAC-50 bolt-action rifle. This meant that the bullet had a flight time of ≈ 4.5 seconds, and a drop of ≈ 70 meters (230 ft).
The previous record was held by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock, achieved during the Vietnam War, at a distance of 2,250 metres (2,461 yd).
Come on Marines, we need to get the record back!:D
