Plea for assistance & information

Alice Roesch-Knapp came upon a group of empty-holster protesters Wednesday afternoon and said she opposes guns on campus.

"I guess I have a problem with weapons anywhere," said the UW sophomore. "If people didn't have access to weapons, they would maybe have to think rationally about their actions."

And as for those who want to come to school with a handgun tucked inside their jacket, "who knows why they would feel that kind of fear on campus," she said.

I don't know what rock she's been living under for the greater part of her life, but the sad REALITY is that criminals will attack and they will use whatever they have available as a "weapon". In the last 2 weeks there have been 3 incidents on or near the University of Hawaii Manoa campus. In two of the incidents, the suspect was said to have had an "Uzi type weapon". Don't know about the rest of society, but this would be my "wake up call" that I should be fighting for my RIGHT to carry a concealed firearm of my own should I need to protect myself or my fellow students from some psycho brandishing an "Uzi type weapon".

I'm speaking with a couple of the campus groups next week. Hope to get a large number of students become educated on CC issues. Great way to influence the state legislature to make laws more "gun friendly".

OK i know this is off topic a little. But it's in line with CC, IF Obama becomes the BIG P in the USA and banns all concealed carry and Voids all permits. Then will we see a refund? As i only paid 10 dollars for 4 year i don't really care. But in some states it;s 100 to 150 for a permit.

There should be a whole new thread on this. I have permits from several states. FL and NV cost over $100 for the application, and the NV permit required me to take a 8 hour class. You better believe that I'll be making noise about the time and money invested.

There may be one other way to approach this and please only use it if it applies to you:
1. You have been assualted/raped/threatened, etc., need weapon to preclude repeat of same.
2. You fear for your life anywhere because...?
3. Persons in your new college (staff or students) have made unwanted threats, advances towards you.
4. You do not trust leaving your weapon at home/in car because of crime where you live [if] off campus, look up the crime stats for the towns where you live like Medical Lake or Cheyney. (WA sub group link, USA Carry)

I know it's digging, but if it gives you the right 2 carry on campus and totally out of site then it may be worth a try if any of above apply.

Bonney Lake is in western WA. Nowhere near Cheney or Medical Lake. I have lived in both Cheney and Medical lake, and have spent time in Bonney Lake. It would be a very long commute from Medical Lake to UW.

I'm about to start school at the University of Washington next week and I can't (per RCW) carry my gun on campus "unless prior written approval has been obtained from the university chief of police, or any other person designated by the president of the university"

I have heard of Deans giving permission for some students, I think usually military, but I haven't been able to come up with specific examples. Does anyone know of a specific college this happened at, or knows anyone who has received a waiver?

I'm sure if I can show precedent, I can convince the dean to let me carry. I have law enforcement training and background and I've carried responsibly for five years. Add to that the recent events at UW and the fact that I have a 2 hour (one-way) commute by bus just to get to school, and how could her reasonably say no?

Anyway, I'm looking for any anecdotes or information that will help me plead my case. I've checked Students for Concealed Carry, but they didn't have too much that was relevant to this.

No precedents or anecdotal info but .

One tact might be assert that state law requires state county city buildings that forbid carry must provide a place to securely store your weapons for which they assume liability for. Make them set up a policy for you to store your gun on campus. At least you will be armed to and from school. Once you can get the school to acknowledge you have a legitimate right and need to carry off campus. You may be able to use their own decision to acknowledge that you have a right and need to carry on campus.

Another tact is to make them aware maybe through a lawyer that because their policy requires you are unarmed and defenseless they will be held liable for any and all harm that you could have prevented had you been armed. At any time their policy requires you be unarmed including going to and from school

Aren't you the lady those gang bangers were following? The ones that got thrown off the bus and than made a series of threats against you That they were going to rape and maim mutilate and kill you. Said they knew you go to UW. If so PM me. Maybe I can help.

Last there should be some members of the students right to carry movement at UW maybe you should contact them. Good luck, keep us posted and stay safe.

I can't (per RCW) carry my gun on campus

Its not the RCW that prohibits carry on campus but rather UW policy. In violation of state preemption IMO since they accept state and federal funding IMO they are a public entity. The UW claims they are a private entity and as such asserts their right to prohibit carry on their property. IMO knowingly providing a feeding ground for violent criminals of defenseless unarmed prey

What if you were to get a Private Investigator's License, could you then carry concealed on campus? Just a thought...
