NEWBERRY, S.C.

Newberry police say they are investigating a man who appeared to be shot to death as he tried to rob another man.

Newberry Police Chief Jackie Swindler told WIS-TV that a man went to the police station immediately after the shooting Saturday night and told officers he shot into a crowd trying to rob him.

Swindler says 35-year-old Willie Hiller was killed. The chief says investigators are looking for five other people involved with the robbery.

Swindler says investigators haven't finished their work, but it doesn't appear the shooter will be charged because he acted in self-defense.
